Any word on those over reported Swedish deaths yet?

⬇️

How is the death toll calculated?

The statistics show the number of people in Sweden who have died with Covid-19. That's everyone who has died after testing positive for the virus; it doesn't mean that the virus itself was a cause of death for all these cases.

So the same as every other country then. The UK also counts the cause of death on the death certificate, which is about 10% lower iirc, but usually it's the 'died following a positive test' figure that is used.

A common complaint on this thread and elsewhere is that it's not an accurate figure, but Sweden is no different in that respect.

What about countries that are a valid comparison to Sweden? You immediately dismissed its neighbours as an invalid comparison, but several days later and we're still waiting to hear which countries are valid.

Pretty shambolic that he is the best candidate the Democrats could come up with, but at least he's not Trump.

Fairly obvious that Kamala Harris will be running for president next time out, comparative youngster, POC, female, weirdly attractive (annoying voice but) she's a  cert to be the first of all of those as president.

In my lifetime, imo, Ronald Reagan was the best POTUS by a country mile. To think that the fantastic triumvirate of Thatcher,  Reagan and Gorbachev, who, collectively, managed to free eastern europe from the tyranny of communism, have been replaced by Johnson, Trump or Biden and Putin.

How standards have fallen.

I appreciate there are differing opinions on the domestic agenda although, not sure if you recall the blackouts, strikes etc  of the 70s, the country needed a reset. That part of the job was accomplished with aplomb.

But, on the foreign policy side, we could do with all of them now.

As an aside,  I remember getting my hands on  a t-shirt with "The Gorby Boys Are in Town" just ahead of the infamous  3-0 game at ER in Sept 90, after the Great Waldo's takeover attempt.  We were due to play Dniepr the following week iirc. Wearing it in the Queen's Arms pre-match seemed to antagonise a group of Hibs casuals.😂

I was in High School,  yep change was needed,  however,  the pendulum swung too far in the opposite direction... TBH this is a topic that is in the past.

One thing I'll praise her for is that she would have put snakes like JRM, and Johnson right back in their boxes re Brexit as for Cummings,  he would have been booted into orbit.

Funny story re Hibs casuals,  we (3 of us, scarfers obvs) were gently advised to try elsewhere for a pint by a couple of them standing outside one of the hotels on the street that runs alongside London

Road?

Could've got a severe kicking that day otherwise.

Yes, completely agree KvC. She did half the job but not the more difficult part, which was creating new jobs in the communities that suffered most. As you say though, that is in the past.

Your experience in London Road was much the same as mine in Queens Arms. "Yir lucky to get past wearing a T-shirt like that"..

Still, we always get the last laugh.

Their scarfers were less complimentary though, it was a scary few minutes leaving the pub. 😁

Yes, there was always the threat of that in the mixed pubs, Vince. You never knew where the casuals were going to be though. I remember once they were in the Black Bull (Leith St)...Blackleys Baby Crew or whatever they were called at the time...late 90s.

The scarfers you encountered were prob still bitter about being rag dolled by us (not me😂)  throughout the 80s.

Yes, there was always the threat of that in the mixed pubs, Vince. You never knew where the casuals were going to be though. I remember once they were in the Black Bull (Leith St)...Blackleys Baby Crew or whatever they were called at the time...late 90s.

They'd been ragdolled 7-0 by Rangers a few days earlier too. 😁

Yeah I'll admit you are normally verbose and eloquent. I was on the beers and probably shouldn't have posted when it fuelled a little bit of a mischievious vibe.

See, some of this stuff isn't far-fetched at least - and we've discussed from the beginning how governments use crisises to engineer power-grabs. Which need to be resisted.

But I'd hope you might reflect and concede that the bat-shit out there stuff is what fuels the disgusting hateful rhetoric from that demo at which some ex-nurse alluded to Nuremberg trials - that is stoking up hate and threats of violence against the very people who worked themselves beyond their physical and mental capacities to keep us well or tend to those who succumbed to this virus.

There's a balance to be had, is what I'm saying.

Dirty Deeds

We've gone 18 months with empty stadiums.  There was always going to be vaccination requirements for large crowds next season.

Personally, I've no issue with it.

Tickets were also supposedly needed to watch the Euro final at Wembley. If they go down that route they're going to need a rethink on how they enforce conditions of entry.
