He gets an easy ride from the people who appointed him. He is part of their team and has their respect. From his point of view he is working for the club that means most to him and has a great relationship with the hierarchy as they don't get involved in what he does. No micro management. He is well paid and in such a privileged position, it doesn't get any better for an employee than that. Spending power aside, I think he has one of the most enviable jobs in British football in terms of the scope of influence he has and the support he gets from his boss. MacDonald, Wee Robbo, Levien, jc, Smith, Berra, mackay amongst others, all part of a good team yet won nothing, Robbo was lucky he got in on it in 98. Any banter about trophies aimed at us should result in he mods launching you for being a *****. Hibs patter in the extreme. I grew up with it as well, but at least they had a bit more fight about them, gave their all for the jersey. Without Naismith and Washington we looked like relegation fodder, and that's what really pisses me off, because it stinks of last season.

merseyjambo
Sorry but nothing has changed from last season. Reliant on one player. Naismith. He gets injured our season goes down toilet. Anyone who is telling one of our better attacking opportunities in McDonald that he needs to work on defensive side of his game really shouldn’t be in job. Him and Mulraney are the players who can if given the opportunity stretch defences. The best way to put an opposing full back on the back foot is to have him worrying about what our winger can do to him. We should be getting the ball to their feet at every opportunity to run at the full backs. Make him defend, not give him the freedom of the wing to run up and down and worry about our attacker being able to defend. Did Jeffries tell McCann to work on defensive side of his game, did Doddie do it with JC. No. They let them loose and they gave defenders such a hard time. Does Yellow teeth tell Forrest to work on defensive side of his game. No he has other teams worrying about what Forrest can do to them.

It is permissible to set up to be robust away from home and then change gear later with subs and a tactical switch, having contained the opposition. A come-back away from home having constrained a decent side for 65 minutes barring an unforced error, the only criticism that is warranted imo is the inability of our players not to shoot themselves in the foot with bad decision making. Without Naismith and Washington we looked like relegation fodder, and that's what really pisses me off, because it stinks of last season. Under Paulo Sergio, without Skacel, we were hopeless... and only when we signed Beattie did we turn from also-rans into contenders. Under Jim Jefferies, without Kyle, we were hopeless. He got injured; we collapsed. Under Csaba Laszlo, without Aguiar, we were hopeless. He left; we imploded. Between 2006 and 2008, where would we have been without Velicka? 2007/8 was bad enough as it was... without him, we'd have come 11th! Between the mid-80s and mid to late-90s, where would we have been without Robbo? And of course I know we had the likes of JC, Crabbe etc etc too... but it's Robbo who gave them the freedom to shine, just as Naismith gives others the chance to shine now. There is, in other words, nothing new in this. It's actually fairly normal. So were JJ, Paulo and Doddie shite because of our obvious reliance on some of the players above? One other thing. For most of my time following the club, Hearts have been extremely fortunate in who our goalkeepers have been. Smith, Rousset, Niemi, Gordon, Kello, Alexander, McLaughlin... to the point whereby Cup-winning Jamie Mac was slagged off by many, even though he was perfectly solid. It's that position we need to get sorted above all else. No side will achieve anything without a good goalkeeper - because a bad goalkeeper unsettles the defence and hence, everything else. But it's not as easy as some might imagine to find the right one. To me, that's the number one priority.

Our crossing is usually awful bit it’s not easy to hit a guy that’s behind two CHs, just tell them to hit hard and low and get to the front post. When Kyle Walker signed for City everyone laughed because he can’t cross the ball, Pep tells him hard and low across the 6 yard line, “half a goal” he calls it and his assists went through the roof. It’s basic stuff, why don’t we do it? That kind of thing frustrates the life out of me at games.
