there's your answer, you've never heard of him so looking at his stats tell you nothing

It doesn't tell me nothing, It tells me that he failed to score last season. I think stats are useful when you're trying to find out if an unknown forward player is a threat in the final third.

He is exactly the sort of striker we don’t have.

He is exactly the sort of striker we need to compliment what we do have.

He is a level above any striker we have had since Sow.

I think he will rip it up here. I really do.

Re formations...

Berra as a sweeper behind Souttar & Halkett.

Ether play those two as part of a four or go with 5 midfield, two wide wing backs?

Obviously some names will not be in starting XI, but that's life!

                                           Zlamal

                                            Berra

                           Souttar                Halkett

     Smith                                                                 White

                                        Haring

                  Naismith                         Walker

               Washington                          Ikpeazu

Granted, looks a bit light in CM - so maybe go one up top, and add Djoum (if he stays) or Edwards or Cochrane or Irving next to Haring

Incldentally, this to me is why the Lafferty return wasn't the best option, even if he was available. Washington is exactly the type of player who can combine better with Uche as he can work the channels and occupy defenders with runs from deep. Lafferty has the ability to do that but it isn't his natural game

Which is exactly what I said to somebody last week.

Nobody can say we really need a player like Lafferty until they see what other options we have or who we actually sign.

You wont see this because I am on your ignore but hopefully somebody will quote it

His goals scored record, certainly is nothing to get excited about. However, he has played at a reasonably high level, so you just never know. Lets hope he finds his scoring boots with HMFC

in his 15 appearances last season, I think he only played about 3 full games

So his stats don't tell you enough about him, rather than assuming he's not a scoring threat. The fact that Michael O'Neill prefers him to playing Lafferty (whose close to breaking the all time scoring record for N Ireland) tells me more than the fact he didn't score last season.

There's not a hope that Halkett will be benched.

That actually looks a decent team if you drop Djoum and put Halkett in his place.

With Haring and Halkett defending the back 4 that will make us strong defensively.  Both however are also well capable of getting forward and creating problems for opposing defences. particularly in the air.

Despite that I would still like to find a slot for Mulraney if only because of his pace.

Maybe see the away strip unleashed, worn by Walker, Washington & Naismith?

Got to be honest, haven't seen much of him, only NI games, seems direct though, maybe our league will suit. Agree he is different to what we have, but don't know how excited I should be yet.

He can certainly run between them but I've yet to see him trap a ball.

Ryan Edwards was a *fun* cameo sideshow for the injury-ravaged final games of last season. He's an absolutely howling footballer.

I noticed Sean Clare wearing the number 8 training gear during the videos posted today. Washington to be our new number 9?

I take it from your locations you've never actually seen him play for hearts? You think after 3 full games, you've managed to come to the intelligent resolution that he's an "absolutely howling footballer"?

I'd love to hear your points as to how you've come to that conclusion?

I do not think Edwards will be a regulat 1st choice but I do think there will be games where his industry will be vital.

His abject lack of ability, mainly.

Granted, he did a fine tactical job in the final - closing down the Celtic left wing and transitioning quickly to stop them building play between Hayes and Johnston. Luckily that didn't involve any attacking play going through him.

again...after a grand total of 3 games for Hearts, you've been able to come to this conclusion? Because what you've just described isn't what an "absolutely howling footballer" would be

He was absolutely shite in that passage of play where we went 1 up in the final.

Sell Souttar Halkett in a cheap defender for cover, Djoum goes.

Investment in Adam and a proper goal scorer.

Easy

2 players in our current squad points to what I mean. We lack pace currently IMO.

Craft and guile are far greater issues. Morrisons another quick one. Quality in the final third game craft. Pace alone is over rated without skill

Berra is the conundrum for me.  I think a 4231 makes sense with what we have, with the "3" being pretty interchangeable as far as L/R/C throughout a game.  So:

Bobby

Smith Souttar Berra/Halkett White

Haring Irving/Cochrane

Washington Naismith Walker

Uche

Hickey, Mulraney, Lee, C Smith, MacDonald, Morrison, Keena, Wighton, Clare all able to make impact

Dikamona, Bozanic, Edwards, MacLean, Brandon and maybe a few young lads all able to fill gaps should we need.  Be interesting to see what happens with Zanatta.

Add Djoum and we look great imo.  Maybe light up top, but Naismith and Washington can play there, so we have options should need be.

Bit of luck this year and that's a squad I'm happy with.  Could trim a few from the list and survive.  Any signing beyond what I have here would be a huge bonus.

I’ll be very pleasantly surprised if we get this one done.

Hibs talking about a statement of intent signing the Forest Green boy, this would be a proper statement from Hearts.

An international is an international.  Austin MacPhee knows him well from NI.  My only concern is who is going to score the goals next season as apart from Naismith there is nobody prolific.

I note that the vermin are going to their green cousins in the West Country to make statements of intent.
