If we had got him as a swap for Hamilton nobody would have moaned

This is basically a delayed swap with Hamilton

Why moan?

.....or perhaps we have not received all of the Hamilton fee yet and have come to a new agreement over this.

Whilst my brother was at Dundee he said that along with Ryan Fraser, Craig Wighton was the best player he's been on a pitch with. Makes you wonder if he's just not flourishing due to the team's circumstances- namely being god ****ing awful.

Yes  He's been around, and highly rated, for ages. It's weird that anyone who even loosely follows Scottish football hasn't heard of him.

Aye, if you say so.

Has he even been getting a game for the mighty Dundee that are doing so well at the moment?

Could be a decent prospect, time will tell I guess, IF he signs. Were we not in the market for a Dundee striker last year?

No because he's recovering from a bad injury. Was first choice at 18/19 before that.

So why are we paying a 6 figure sum for someone that's had a bad injury?

How do we know he's not lost his pace?

I'm guessing because someone at the club has run the rule over him and rates him.

Decent potential but isn’t going to get us enough goals between now and January when Vanecek comes in. Would be underwhelmed with our options in attack if this is what we have after Friday. Delighted with our progress in other areas!

Don't think for a second his signing has anything to do with Vanacek .

Very similar to the signing of Souttar . Young , talented Scottish player whose career has stagnated . Bring him in and develop him , same as Souttar . That seemed to work .

DU fans , I know a few , didn't want Souttar anywhere near their team .

Don't think it was Levein who tried to sign Wighton for DU but he has known about him for a long time .

Wighton , Souttar and Gauld are all graduates of Cathro academy .

Levein showing his foresight again

Neil McCann prefers a 38 year old Kenny Miller apparently.

Had to google him.

No idea about him, can't remember him in the games Iv'e seen Dundee play, although he missed most of last season with a dull one- cruciate ligament.

Young lad tho, and represented Scotland at yooof leavels a fair bit.

Lightweight but very skilful player - described to me by a Dee fan as falling somewhere between David Templeton and Ryan Gauld in terms of ability..

TBF he offers a bit more in the short term and Dundee badly need that

Sadly we live in a world of instant judgement via social media. Let’s wait and see him in a maroon jersey for a decent spell before rushing to judgement, eh?

He is a friend of my stepson and I have watched him a few times and thought he had decent ability but not an out and out striker. I thought he was quite a clever player and will, along with most of us, give him a decent chance to do well and won't be surprised if he does.

I don't know that he has. I'm looking for people to tell me that he hasn't!

It's the 6 figure sum that worries me here. The boy has apparently been injured for a year!

Not read the whole thread but had a look on the Dundee fans forum and they all seem gutted that they are losing him . Seems to be the case that they all think he has bags of talent/ potential just that Neil McCann isn’t getting it out of him

So would I if this season was going to be a battle against relegation. But it's not for us so we can afford to bring in the younger option. Our entire season doesn't hinge on this signing.

His then teammate at Dundee, Gavin Rae said Wighton's playing style reminds him of Aaron Ramsey, who Rae played alongside in his time at Cardiff City.

Ok. I get your point TP,  but let me just finish my cornflakes in peace without having your opinion rammed down my throat again and again and again. We disagree. OK? Shall we just wait and see now?

Football isn't quite that black and white though. McCann I reckon is looking for leaders on the pitch

Wonder if Dundee are in Soapy bubble again, as someone suggested earlier? What happened with their plans to build a new stadium? Is that still on the cards?

Interesting contrast between the two managers... the contrasting league positions are also interesting.

Not against the signing at all mate as I agree that he is a decent young player with potential to develop. Just hope we get another more experienced striker (if not Vanecek) before the weekend.

From what I know of him, he has bags of potential and has been set back by an injury and also wasted development in the hands of Hartley and Mccann.

I remember folk saying Souttar wasn't good enough to make it at Hearts. I'm confident that if the club think they can bring him on to a game over a few seasons then they will.

Are people on here honestly writing off a 21 year old?

After all the high of DM coming back why do some people on here allow themselves to plummet down due to a guy most ain't heard of. Sure the club see something in him.

Don't know how some people on here can say they have never heard of Wighton.

Hearts were trying to sign him either last year or the year before. It was discussed in depth on at least one thread on JKB.

From what i know Wighton is a player who can play anywhere along the front 3, we don't really have any players that could do this (Naismith maybe, but he will play deeper this season).

Wighton, Morrison, Mulraney and Mitchell means we have some serious pace out wide, perfect for picking up points away from home when previous years we would have crumbled.

We have a seriously strong squad now :clumshot:
