Then tonight, they get the dream start, have chances to kill the game, blow it and then let Croatia come back into it. Ultimately England were lucky to get to extra time. They beat the teams they were expected to win, perhaps except the Croatia game which, despite the bookies odds was probably a 50/50. If you look at each individual game they really haven’t overachieved at all, it’s just that on paper the team was never good enough to reach the last 4.
