Its pretty blurry but at a push Id say the other words were Old Scotch. Edited April 3, 2019 by been here before

Shanks said no
Washerwomen on Calton Hill. Date c1880 The airy heights of Calton Hill around the 1880s. This magnificent image by the great Thomas Vernon Begbie gives us a great contrast between some of the wealthier women of Edinburgh and the working women of the day, who are likely doing the household washing of the other women. Its intriguing to see the 'better dressed' New Town women resting, after a leisurely walk up to the top of Calton Hill, while the washer women labour away within feet of them. This fact would have been obvious until around c1910, the era this photograph was taken, when there were still buildings along our main thoroughfare that had the original Georgian configuration of railings, basements, cellars and steps. Today there is just one and it's adjacent to Primark. In the case of 118 Princes Street - the building to our left in this photo - the frontage was heavily altered and an extension built soon after this image was taken. I bet there's still evidence of those cellars in the basement of what is now HSBC though
