I find the media bias against the SNP: only interested in independence, havent done anything while in power etc etc, tired, false and insulting to the general public. Paragraph 1 - a non sequitur. Paragraph 2 - the defining purpose of the SNP is Independence and if you engage your critical faculties you will understand that aim to be the underpinning of everything they do. Media bias - it's all about perspective. To many in Scotland, the SNP are the Celtic of politics - they get an easy ride from the media and seem to be immune from criticism. They have achieved in power - they have managed to foster a mood of grievance by failing or refusing to mitigate the "excesses" of the Tory Government. Beyond that, they have done very little beyond what could have been achieved by the Regional Councils.
Boris
Universalism is fine, as long as there is an endless stream of money to pay for it It was that approach that meant when the big crash happened in 2008 there were no reserves left , no resilience. everything should be means tested that comes from the tax pot so that it can be targeted at those who need it example- the free school meals for P1-3 at the moment in Scotland does not extend to private schools This means that I (via taxation) am paying to feed the kids of other doctors who earn more than I do, who spend their money on holidays and cars instead of education. That is the fallacy of "free" Government does enough for private schools as it is, with their charitable status. Apologies for being blunt, but that's a terrible argument. It's your choice to send your kids to be privately educated and not the state's responsibility!

That is a fact that they now grudgingly admit. Anyone who would suggest that the SNP are not fixated on and endlessly mention IndyRef2 is not paying attention. Anyone who missed the grasping at any pretext to advance that cause is not paying attention. Anyone who has missed the disproportionate amount of parliamentary time devoted to debating independence is not paying attention. That the other parties mention it is the result of that, not some random references. These other parties are also representing the growing unease in the general population at the prospect of another divisive referendum when the there is no obvious benefit. The Tories may be unpopular but they can be removed from power. Independence would be permanent - get that wrong and millions will be the poorer for it and for much longer than the life of a parliament.

Cade
Next thursday is shaping up to be very interesting indeed. Even though I'm expecting things to more or less end up where they are now, Kim Jong May has exposed how shoddy the Torie's future plans are and revitalised the (proper) left of politics. The distance Corbyn has covered in the polls in only a few weeks is staggering. All of this upheaval for next to no change. A small Tory majority in Westminster and a massive 50-seat-plus landslide for the SNP up here.

Doogz
I'm not so sure he does know it. The TAX system appears to be a mystery to him and it is as if his tax alone pays for everything. It has been explained to him and yet he still bangs on as if he is paying for everyone in Scotland's 'free' stuff. Don't agree with the point he's making but there could be some merit to losing the "Free" label - these services do cost money and labelling them as "free" can lead to them being undervalued and as a result abused - for example patients not turning up for appointments with their GP. If people realised their appointment had a value of ?x they may be more inclined to re-schedule or cancel so someone else can utilise the slot and the ?x is no longer wasted. maroonlegions
This articule and the questions poised by John Pilger are thought provoking to say the least. What did May and her predecessors really know. She should not be anywhere near number 10. Mrs. May unquestionably has to provide answers to many things but one of the most important one required right now is for her to come clean and tell the country what she and our intelligence services actually knew about the young man who perpetrated the recent atrocity in Manchester. John Pilger is not the first journalist to bring up that Mrs. May was both implicit in inaction to apprehend the perpetrator and that he was involved with our intelligence service. The people of this country deserve to know the truth, and to know this before the GE on 8th June. TERROR IN BRITAIN: WHAT DID THE PRIME MINISTER KNOW? The SNP's Idea was for local income tax was to REPLACE the council tax, i.e. It's progressive, the poorer in society pay less and the wealthy pay more, what part of that do you not understand?
