New stand

That pitch belongs to NBD, It's a community pitch, there may be scope to buy the land behind the Roseburn, but I doubt they would be willing to sell the Wheatfield side

The warehouses at the corner were emptied in the mid naughties but were refilled again when the demand for whiskey increased a few years later

I enquired about this pitch a while back for a cup final and was informed that Hearts own the pitch, eventually I went round the houses and eventually someone from Hearts emailed me back but explained there are no changing rooms as the school is closed so people would have to come prepared for the game, we decided to play at Saughton instead but I would think that if someone from Hearts can make that decision we either rent if from the distillery or own it ourself,  I used to play on it when at Tynie high school but again not sure if this was just rented by the school.

The pitch definitely belongs to NBD, as I said it is a community pitch and they were always more than willing to allow the school to use it, and in more recent times have allowed Hearts to use it, but I can recall a time when Jim Jefferies and his squad were escorted off the pitch by NBD Security because they didn't have permission to be there.

It was actually quite funny, this was during JJs first managerial time

I doubt if there is any "whiskey" in these buildings, although there might be "whisky". The former is the Irish or American variety.

Signing Messi?  -  not sure we can accommodate him and Sow and Juanma, but with injuries, suspensions etc probably good addition to the squad

Now the Oliver transfer is beginning to make sense :)

One thing to add to that idea is that the Wheatfield was designed in such a way that it can be taken down and re-assembled. Build a new main stand at the Wheatfield side and swap them.

What would the benefit of that be over just building a new main stand at the current main stand side?

NBD also bought the old Tynecastke a High School, I asked what they planned to do with it but the response was nothing specific but wanted to be in control of the land surrounding..

Yep, ideas like this were muted a while back, tynecastle is so hemmed in on all sides that space for any redevelopment is a concern tbh, hence Robinsons attempts to sell up & move out of gorgie altogether at one time. Mind the "keep our Hearts in Gorgie" campaign?. [emoji6]b91054e36c046702217a54d2fff1487c.jpg

I agree there are limitations to the site at Tynecastle, and am open to the idea of moving elsewhere if the current board are convinced it's right for the club's long term future, but as far as the pieman is concerned, I don't believe there was any other factor in play except his desperate need to come up with big money to satisfy the bank and SMG.

If we can't stay at tynecastle. Saughton park would be the closest we could get. Could get a fair sized stadium and some parking.

Looking at the costs involved in a new stadium.

Scunthorpe United are moving to a new stadium next season, near the M180 as part of the Lincolnshire Lakes project.

12,000 seater stadium costing ?18 million

Would be ideal but the opposition to a stadium there would be huge unfortunately.

Excuse me, qualify for knock out stages. You mean win the Champions league and defend it the year after don't you. Also win World club championship and Euro super cup.

Now that's what I call ambition :D

I like the first in particular because corners are exactly the right place for corporate boxes.  Viewing angles from the corner are generally crap but most suits don't care as long as you've got free cocktails.

Does anyone really believe with the current climate in Scottish football that there is money whether private funds or sponsorship to raise ?30-40m to build a new stadium?

We will be staying at Tynecastle of that I have no doubt and the noises I have heard is that this will indeed be the case.

rudi must stay

Wouldn't mind if we got a new stand similar to Deepdale's, it has more modern facilities but increased capacity at the same time as keeping that old stand feel

Mooted. [emoji1] spellcheck .

Pitch dimensions under uefa rules & safety certificates for the old wooden main stand were usually highlighted whenever any talk of rebuilding was going on tbh. A.B has highlighted the need to upgrade our main stand facilities too.

I view moving as a last resort myself, I done the original & new 500 clubs to help build those stands & if asked i'd donate towards a new main stand too.

The main stand isn't "wooden". It is brick (of higher quality than modern breeze-block) with wood fittings for the seating areas. There is nothing intrinsically unsafe about the structure - properly treated wood fails more slowly to fire than a concrete structure, as anyone who has tried to start a log fire would understand. However the main stand's facilities and capacity are inadequate.

Granted I am not in the old main stand very often, but I seem to remember the 'floor boards' under foot at some parts being wooden for some reason... am I confusing somewhere else up in my head? My season ticket seat is in the Wheatfield.

They are, but that's not an issue in itself. It's a brick structure with wooden floorboards: Much like your house.

It does need replaced at some point unfortunately. I hope there's a way it can be replaced sensibly.

Is it not similar in material makeup to the stand that caught fire in Bradford?

No idea. I'm sure that it wouldn't be given a safety certificate if it didn't meet the minimum standards put in place after that.

I do like the old stand, though. I'll be sad to see it go.

Yes "wood fittings for the seating areas" = floor boards. As in most of our houses, as someone has pointed out.

Yeah, it's been there longer than any of us, so it is a big part of our memories of the place. I'd get over it pretty soon if we finished off our closed box stadium though, the atmosphere would be unbelievable at big games.

In Bradford, gaps in the "floor boards" allowed combustible material to gather under the floor boards over a number of years. I've not seen any such gaps in the main stand. Nor in my house.

As someone who grew up around the corner from tynecastle I'm well aware it's not a fully wooden stand but red brick frontage grade 2 listed building with a wooden seating area thanks. It was a turn of phrase not a description [emoji6]

I've been going to Tynecastle for over 50 years and I would never describe the main stand as a "wooden stand". I am not aware it's listed either.

Was speaking to somebody at Hearts this week and was told the red brick would have to be built into the stand as it's listed weather it was built into the inside of the new stand so you could come further out or you use that as the main bit. Either way it has to stay

Agreed. The only chat I've heard about listing was on here when it looked like we might be in trouble and there was talk of trying to get it listed so the administrators could only sell the land as a football ground making us more likely to survive.

I can't believe it would be a listed building and we wouldn't know about it. Also if it had to stay in its same form no chance we could renovate it in our budget and make it worthwhile.

Not listed as such, but (and I could be wrong here) I'm sure it's described as a "building of architectural significance" or something like that.

Don't think that would cause a huge problem should we wish to demolish to make way for a new stand.

Despite the cost - I'd love it if the fascade was retained and it was rebuilt on another site. Costs are just to prohibitive though. :-(

Nope the Main Stand is not listed. if you go to pastmap.org.uk you can get access to all the Historic Scotland & RCAHMS databases, and the MS does not appear as a listed building.

It is on the SMR for Edinburgh though, meaning it's a building of historic/architectural interest, but not subject to statutory protection.
The entry on Canmore has loads of great photos of Tynie too. I love the one of the view from inside the Shed.

The 'No money returned under any circumstances' sign.

I always thought that meant that they didn't give change, so I always had the correct amount (1/6d when I first started going).

including the 3d busfare that was 1/9d for my day out.

It would be nice if we could save some of the brickwork fa,cade from the auld stand and incorporate it in any new structure, if the cost is not too great that is. Or maybe a statue using the bricks that can be saved to our proud past.

I know there are lots of issues with the ground, particularly the main stand. The point I was making was that I don't believe Robinson's eagerness to sell the ground was about anything other than trying to keep the creditors happy.
