The Merse
Ring games suck man. Tournament suits our style of play IMO. I was bored this afternoon and started reading this thread for a trip down bad beat memory lane and stumbled across this comment. What a cracker! I'm almost exclusively cash now. The Merse
Yowzer. Just won the biggest pot I've ever won in a live cash game! Was soooo sick. I really don't know where I found the nerve/stupidity to do what I did... We were 5 handed and this tight guy raises to ?14. SB calls, I have Qc9c in the BB and call. Flop comes down QsTc6c So top pair and flushing. SB checkcs, I check, orig raiser bets ?15, SB calls. I pump it up to ?60, orig raiser then pops it up another ?100 on top of my re-raise. My stack at this stage was ?430 with about ?80 invested at that time. About say ?300 for me to call ?100 in to... I tanked and decided to call as I wasn't prepared to give my hand up, although I did know I was behind obv. Turn was an offsuit 8. So the board now QT68. I'm flushing, top pair, and the turn has actually given me a double gutshot straight draw.... I decided to ship it in for my remaining ?330. (Christ knows where I found the balls for that!) The guy had me covered and called and showed...QQ for top set. So i'm needing a club a 7 or a J. River brings a J and I take down a pot over ?1k. Yikes!!! PS - dmcg the play of q9 hand was horrible, hope you learn from it HU4ROLLZ. The Q9 hand certainly wasn't the best hand i'll ever play, i was a bit unlucky to run into the hand that I did, against pretty much any other hand I'm drawing a lot more live. Even though he had what he had I was still 32% going into the river, which isn't a good situation to put my money in, the guy was tilty as well though so I felt my ship my get rid of him. He'd folded twice in the last hour or so after raising someone else ?100 on the flop and then they shipped over the top of them. I can't really be arsed trying to justify the play, because personally I don't like it either and I won't be in a rush to play that big a pot again, especially out of position. What is this your talking about on FT>?
Goonieref
You dont get reads on players because the players change every hand. You just have to have a super tight preflop game with huge amounts of discipline. Post flop is really tricky but me and several other guys are discussing what plays are most optimal considering you could be playing a fish or a shark. I think I live near you dmcg, you can just come and sweat me playing rush some time if you want.....it is sickest thing ever.
DikT.
I don't think your play with Q9 suited was too bad to be honest. I tend to raise large with suited connectors (or near connectors anyway) especially if I get two of the same suit on the flop. My perverted theory is there are 9 out cards for a flush so quite happy to bet on the %age that it will come quite frequently. Well done by the way. I am seriously beginning to believe there is something fishy about PKR though. Four days in a row now I have logged in, started playing and third or fourth hand someone has hit quads (none of them me BTW!!!!) Either extremely coincidental or something strange happening. Statto
**WARNING, the following post may contain a bad beat** I have AJ heads up, I raise (again), he calls, flop 477, he checks, I bet, he min-raises, I don't think he has the 7, if he did -because of the type of player he was- I believed he would have flatted it, I believe I can push him off the hand, I push, he calls, he shows 4T, turn 7, river 7 for quads Ace kicker (it went in my favour...) Sexton Hardcastle
Been on Betfair poker a fair bit recently. After loosing my 20 quid within minutes i was watching one of the higher stakes game for a bit of banter. $25/50, 6 Way. UTG raised it up to 250 and there was 3 calls. SB/BB. Flop came 4J4 rainbow. SB bet another $250 which was raised to $600 by the BB. Flat called by the other two. Turn was a 10 i think to which the SB checked and the BB pushed all in for around $900. The other boy took his time over it and used the timebank of 30 seconds or so and he shoved all in as well. Think it was for around $2000. SB Insta calls and Turns over 4's. AJ and Queens were the other hands. River was a blank. Cant ask for much more of a dream flop and the boy took down around $7500. Couldnt quite believe what i had seen. Usually getting beat for your 20 quid is bad to take. These boys jsut played on and i left a few hands later. Whats the biggest pot wins/losses you kids have had? Pot I posted above was about ?1050, that was the biggest I've won. Lost a few ?600 + pots at casino and also lost a pot for about $1,200 online. Flopped 2nd nut flush versus nut flush while playing $3/6. My mate lost a pot for around $2,500 when playing $5/10. He had AA and lots of pre-flop action. Flop came down A55 and the guy had 55. Era Macaroons
Right, I've held off long enough. Can anyone recommend a poker site to register with? I would suggest smaller 'European' based sites to begin with such as Ladbrokes or W.Hills amongst many others, your more likely to have a chance. I only say that cos even at low levels the Huge American sites (Stars, FT) seem to be of a high standard....reason being, Yanks grew up with poker over the dinner table...we're learning it. Good Luck.....mind n post yer results

Larry
Entered a $5 heads up shootout tourney last night. 256 players. won 5 games to get to the final 8 and guaranteed $45. Only to come up against a Celtic fan who knocked me out... I had 2to1 chip lead over him, got 55. raised it up he calls 346 flop..great flop i think, he checks, I bet 300 into 480 pot..now he only has about 750 so im thinking he will fold or go all in..he calls... turn is a 9 and he instantly pushes all in for the last 450 odd, the 9 couldnt have helped, he must have had me beat on the flop. But only 450 to call for a chance of a place in the last 4, I probably still have 8 straight outs and 2 for my set..even if i lose I still will only be 2to1 behind in chips, still got a chance. I call He turns over K9....river is a blank How the **** did he call 300 of his 750 on the flop? The bhoy went on to final table heads up and just spli 1st place

It might not be too clever re bankroll but I like to mix up the diffferent types of games I play to stop me from getting bored. So I end up going from playing heads up horse to holdem tourneys to mixed cash. probably why Im not profitable though:24_shocked: Sticking with Holdem just now though as I seem to be playing decent the last couple of days. especially in sngos and tourneys. Cash I just seem to play too loose.

Statto
Just qualified for the SPT Glasgow leg, the big hands were; 5 handed, I'm on the button, blinds 50/100, pocket 4's min-raise UTG, next player calls, I call, blinds fold - pot 750. Flop Q97 pre-flop-raiser bets 200, next player folds, I think this is weakness, I raise to 600, leaving back 1370 - he folds, I take down a pot of 950. 5 handed, I'm on the Big Blind, blinds 50/100, A2 of clubs folded round to the button, he calls, SB folds, I check. Flop A2A (2 spades), I check, he bets 125 - I feel this is strong, I raise to 450 with the nuts, he pushes for another 1885, I snap call, he shows J7 of spades - he's drawing dead - I win the pot of 4270, taking me up to 5080. 4 handed, I'm on the Big Blind, blinds still 50/100, pocket A's UTG limps, button folds, SB calls, I raise 250, UTG calls, SB folds - pot 800 Flop T38, I bet 500, UTG-man min-raises, I push him all in for another 950, he shows TJ. Turn 4, River 3 - I win the 4700 pot, taking me up to 7430. 6 handed (final table), I'm on the Small Blind, blinds 150/300, pocket T's folded round to the button, button pushes for 2410, I push all in 8142.5, BB folds, button shows pocket 2's - pot 5120 Flop 9A3, Turn J, River 9, this takes me up 11,002.5 4 handed (guaranteed ?88, top 3 won the seats), I'm UTG, blinds 200/400, A7 I raise to 1100, button folds, SB folds, BB pushes for 5932.5, I have 9752.5 back, I make a disciplined fold. 4 handed, I'm on the Small Blind, blinds 200/400, AT folded round, I raise to 1100 total (900 raise, 700 more), BB pushes for 5332.5, I have 8852.5 back, I call, BB shows JK - pot 11,465 Flop 8JA, Turn 9, River 7, this takes me up to 15,685 and wins the seat for the SPT. Except for losing the odd blind, I only lost that one hand during "competitive play", although it was a fold - not really losing a showdown, I only made one "move", the top hand ^^^ with the 4's. Pretty simple stuff really.
