Victorian
You can't go wrong with a nice vintage Rado. Good quality Swiss pieces for not much money at all. When you get it, don't worry that the Rado anchor emblem is spinning around.. it's supposed to rotate.
The People's Chimp
Sweet. I'll see how it goes, should arrive tomorrow. I've wasted hours today looking at some of the russian watches on ebay.
Victorian
Have a look at the Meranom versions online. Same Vostok movements in more modern cases, including a lot of re-issue / homage designs. I have a Meranom 'Radio Operator' limited edition Amphibia. I used to have an original Radio Operator but I was terribly stupid and sold it. Same as the Sturmanskie Okeah re-issue I had. Nothing is sacred.
Tazio
Rado are great pieces and built like tanks. Also don't be worried if the anchor doesn't rotate, they get stiff with age (oo'er missus)
Victorian
I had a fantastic Rado Golden Gate a long time ago. It needed a bit of work but I decided not to bother getting it done and sold it as a non runner. Another bad decision. I've yet to see another come up for sale. I also had a really nice Golden Horse in good running order. As Tazio says, the proper ones are heavily built. But there are a lot of Diastars going about that have questionable authenticity. jambo121
Hi guys i have followed this thread for a while. I like my watches like you all and at the moment I am looking to buy either of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Watches the older one with 3 dial Chrono or the 2 dial Chrono which is the newer version. I have had some poor luck trying to buy on Ebay where they are described wrongly either stating the have the guarantee card or they have a box and only when questioned they come back saying they dont. I also tried to buy one on Chrono 24 but there process just didn't sit well with me. I don't normally buy anything of that value through these sites however if you are after a descent price they seem to be the only places to go. Has anyone got any other suggestions and if it is worth going for the newer version as its almost a grand more in price buying from these sites? cosanostra
Sten Guns is probably the man to ask there. He's pretty clued up on Omega Planet Oceans. We all love iconic watches on here. Have you tried them? Their prices are usually excellent. Just save a wee bit longer and get a brand new one from them. If you're going to have it forever, opening the box for the first time is a cool thing to experience. Any chance of posting an image of the model you like? cosanostra
I tried one of those Hamilton watches with the weird tri-angley faces. Very unusual, kind of cool on and not very expensive. Rather liked it actually. Once again, i just thought that it was a wee bit small for my wrist. Very nice though.

Sten Guns
It's been a while since I read about Planet Oceans, over 2.5 years now. But if memory serves me right, the new ones that came out in 2011 had better in house movements. I also read that if you were to buy the old one, get a "D" serial movement as previous ones had issues. I bought mine here. Some price difference from the ?5240 on the high street. This would be my choice, but then I'm a little biased. http://www.iconicwatches.co.uk/omega-seamaster-planet-ocean-chrono-chronometer-232-30-46-51-01-001.html Edited October 29, 2015 by Sten Guns

Victorian
You might struggle to get a specific watch but for the longer term for buying watches at lower cost, join a few of the watch forums and post on a regular basis. After posting for long enough you can get access to sales forums where members sell and trade. Prices tend to be much lower than you would find on auction sites, etc.

That looks like a great site. Currently i have a Seamaster Quartz, a Deville and a Constellation, 2 Montblancs (A Timewalker and a Star) an Oris DIver, A Ferrari Ltd Edition and an 18kt gold pocket watch. Tazio
I read a review of the modern Omega models recently by a watchmaker and he was very critical of the amount of work needing down on a service on a relatively new watch compared to the older models. Bert Le Clos
This is the Rado. Really liking the late 70s look to it. All good so far. That's absolutely stunning. Personal choice only, I'm not a huge fan of the nautical style watches as I find their faces too busy for my liking. For that reason I tend to avoid metal strapped watches, but that's looks great. Did you buy it new or pick it up second hand?
The People's Chimp
Second hand, it's a 70s effort. TheMaganator
Beautiful watch. So much nicer than anything over fussy. Thanks. What you cant see from the crappy iphone pic is that the hands and markers change colour depending on how much light they are exposed to. It really is awesome. It really bothers me when watch makers cut numbers in half for chronograph subdials. It puts me off so many watches! Lots of boxes ticked for me with this one. IronJambo
I've been hugely inspired by this amazing looking Ventura with the metal strap and it's got me wanting something very retro. All things said, I wouldn't have it as I'm not interested in owning a quartz. I've now stumbled across this. Anyone know anything about them?
