Captain Sausage
Got a lovely letter from HMRC through this morning. I owe £1700 in taxes for last year. Welcome to 2021! Welcome to 2021! (Slightly satirical, obviously money I owe so can’t really complain..) Worth checking. Three times in my life over last 12 years I've been chased for money and all 3 times investigated further and both were written off or found to be incorrect i shit you not. First was in-between teaching jobs and had signed on and off over period of 5 months. Get a letter saying I failed to inform them of work I'd done and I owe them 456 quid. Produced all my paperwork of time worked and copies of my work diary and they eventually realised that error was on their part and as an apology they would not collect on the over payment . Second time was letter saying had been overpaid Child Benefit by nearly 2000. I asked for detailed breakdown of overpayment and then I'd be happy to set up an arrangement. Back and forward for nearly a year with them asking for funds and me saying Absolutely, just show me the calculations on paper and I will do it. They "wrote off" the overpayment. Third time more recently I received a letter saying I was due a tax rebate of 1040 quid. However this apparently prompted an investigation of my last 3 years tax and ultimately I had actually been on wrong tax code and owed them £1200. Again I said sure, you provide me with the maths on paper showing how it happened and I'll will make a pay arrangement. 6 months later and letter says matter resolved and no money owed. Between DWP and HMRC I could have paid nearly £4k if I'd just accepted all their letters and not questioned it.
tian447
Neighbours taking the absolute piss. They've put a gazebo up in their back garden, and have had visitors every day for the past 2 weeks. Different cars, and usually groups of 2 to 6 people. People there now, clearly English accents, and the sound of champagne corks popping at 2pm on a ****ing Tuesday. They've got a fire pit as well and the whole place is stinking of smoke. I've not seen my family since last Christmas, but these pricks are having parties and hosting all kinds of shite. They clearly think they are too good for any of the restrictions. Their arsehole visitors have parked in our space as well, even though it's clearly a private one, so when my partner comes back from a 14 hour shift in the COVID ward, she won't be able to get parked because they've been drinking all afternoon. Bet you they still drive anyway, because it's a big White Range Rover with a personalised plate.

Just have to hope they have a terrible accident involving the fire-pit and the gazebo. Maybe the Range Rover too.

Lone Striker
Every time a football pundit on TV talks about one of the team's shape as "a midfield diamond". A diamond is NOT a shape. It's a carbon gemstone !! The geometric shape these pundits are trying to describe is trapezoid. A midfield trapezoid. If Michael Stewart wants to become First Minister, he needs to brush up on things like this.

Cade
One of my old workplaces was like that. Every feckin week it was some charity drive or other. Or someone's birthday. Or a lotto syndicate. Or paying into the night out pot. Hands out for cash every week without fail. Worst was the fancy dress ones. Had to come to work in fancy dress AND pay a tenner for the privilege. And if you refused to come to work in fancy dress, they tried to make you pay double as a forfeit. Told them tae I was there to make money, not give it all to charity. When charity gifting is not optional and not for causes of your own discretion it's essentially them reducing your pay without consent. Told them I'd report them for not meeting min wage requirements. Pricks. Edited January 9, 2021 by Cade
