Loved this series. Got a load more Bernard Cornwell books on the back of it.

Currently exploring my own family's links to the USA and came across this in Waterstones.

Turns out the Scots weren't always  the angels we think , particularly in the slave owning parts of the Carolinas and their impact on the native peoples of Canada. Early days but fascinating.

I loved the Grail Quest series. I've not read any others, though I've got all the Sharpe books as my wife read them yonks ago.

I'm not sure anyone now thinks the Scots were angels.

The number of black people with Scottish names is remarkable until you think of the reason for it.

Both of those books are superb in my opinion.  It doesn't matter where you start really. They're not linked in any way.

All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy at the moment.

Superb author.

I've got a few of his books but that is the only one I've read, i think. The Road was a bit bleak for me and i didn't finish it. Must try again!

In my view its really worth it but it is a bleak novel. I probably rate it as my favourite post-apocalypse type book for that reason. Just ordinary people trying to survive. No outrageous heroics etc, just real.

Might have to reread it after this one. Its been a while.
