All my clubs competitions cancelled, fees due end of the month.... still charging full amount. Not sure I’ll even bother.

Some clubs have a date you must indicate not renewing by,   otherwise someone is liable for the fees.    Mine does.    Worth checking out.

Not even on my mind right now.    My only thought is to cram in my 3 cards in the late part of the season.    Club's shut down now and I can't see the April to July competitions taking place.    By the time I play golf next it might be about 10 months of a break since my last game.

I'll be playing until the government tell us not to. Scottish Golf still advising people to play golf (with measures taken) given the risk is tiny.

Yeah there's no particular risk but I'm not inclined to bother.    I might get some games in the summer right enough.    Club has been mothballed with quite a long shut down forecast.    I can't see it re-opening until August myself.

You're a member at Leven? Not aware of the course closing?

Yep. A golf course seems like a really safe place to be! Don't have to touch the pins or rakes and I only use my gloved hand to take the ball out the hole. Just hope the greenskeepers can still carry on working and keeping the courses playable.

Some courses are bound to suffer manpower issues and will be difficult to prepare.    Some might end up going a bit reclaimed by nature.    I have been wondering how much of a challenge it will be to retrieve a course after this.

That's the only issue really. If our greenkeepers (there is only 2 of them) had to go into self isolation then we could struggle.

In these times though, course improvement should go out the window and the sole focus should be on keeping the greens up to scratch.

Carded my best ever round to par (+9). Was +2 front 9 but the wind picked up a bit back 9 with pretty much every hole into it.

Had 12 putts on the front 9, honestly couldn't miss at time

Aye I didn't think Leven was closed. Lundin isn't either. In fact, not heard of any Fife course close.

Out for 18 again tomorrow.

The catering at Balbirnie is still looking to operate. The plan is to simply call ahead with an order and it can then be collected from side door.

Dumbarnie update.  They are going to hold Fife Golf days, my understanding this will be where a Fife club is contacted and offered an allocation of more or less a full day of tee times at vastly reduced rates.  It does note the Fife Golf days on their website on the Play Dumbarnie/Fife Residents page.  It is if you are a member of a Fife Golf club, not just a Fife Resident so having it on this page could be a bit misleading.

Word is that it will a lot, lot less than 94 quid a round, so if you are a member of a Fife Golf Club it might be worth while finding out from your club Secretary if the club has been contacted and if they are aware of this prior to booking.  It might not be all Fife Golf Clubs, perhaps just the bigger ones, no idea but worth checking.  The only downside could be that so many club members want to play on the day that a club needs to do a draw if not enough tee times are offered, again no idea of any of the details but I certainly would think that could happen if applications were high.

The above kind of makes sense given the circumstances because you just cannot imagine the overseas players coming this year and if Dumbarnie does open it will need income and as much as it can get to offset all it's outgoings given it is in set up year.

Also lots of clubs now using inverted cups on the greens so that nobody has to touch the flag sticks, you only need to putt and hit the cup.  Sensible move.

Played yesterday. Group of 4 old guys in their late 60s/70s in front of us taking the pins out on every hole, picking them up with ungloved hands.

Interesting! I'll bring this up at our meeting tomorrow.

Re the cups, it's totally bizarre and off-putting. Played Glenrothes Open yesterday and they had cups inverted. Plus I don't think it makes much of a difference, you can still remove a ball from the cup without them being inverted.

The point is for clubs they need to invert the cup high enough so players putt and claim putt by simply hitting the cup.  If folk are either handling the flag stick or picking up the ball from the cup that is not enough because others follow on and touch a possibly infected area and then they, without fail naturally touch their face.

Players may not like it but it needs to be changed to this way or complaints will follow and that could be ammo that people need to criticise the golf clubs. After all it is only for a short time and for the greater good I guess.

To be honest the way things are heading it will not matter because if folk do not follow the social distancing requests we will all be in lock down shortly anyway.

When I'm n holiday in Tenerife each year, I talk to this old guy.

He owns this company https://www.fairwayproductsonline.co.uk/

He was showing some of the stuff last year and I looked at this and thought, why would anyone buy that?

Yesterday, I was wishing I had one.

https://www.fairwayproductsonline.co.uk/rakes-(general-and-specialist)/mini-rake

There was no way that I was touching a pin or rake.

Played Innerleithen yesterday with my dad. Great weather for it. From what i seen everyone was doing their part to keep safe. Only seen groups of 2, flags were kept in with the upside down cups, safe distance kept between people while walking. At the end we just tapped putters. If people can stick to doing things like that, hopefully there will be no need to stop us playing.

Played the Old Course at St Andrews on Friday, what a great day for golf.  It was the shorter tees but played the front 9 in 3 under and really should have been 5 under having missed two 4ft putts for birdies!  The back 9 was a lot harder with the road hole causing me to shed some man tears - but still managed a 75 on my first game there and would definitely have taken that on the first tee!

I must say that if it wasn't so famous, it wouldn't even make the top 20 courses in Scotland. Yes its nice coming over the little bridge on the 18th, but as a golf course, its not that great.

Played the Kittocks at Fairmont on the Saturday - got it for £36 through golf now -   https://www.golfnow.co.uk/tee-times/hot-deals#date=Mar+23+2020  and thought it was brilliant.

Obviously, no pins touched, and social distancing was followed!

Scottish Golf recommending clubs close their locker rooms and caddy stores, ours now shutting on Sunday 29th to give folk time to take out their personal belongings, clubs, caddy cars etc. However course to remain open.

Apparently some courses have closed and some are open.

Make of that what you will.  To me a waste of effort by our club and our Committee should just say we are closing course. Yeah come for your personal stuff etc. but this is all too wishy washy because lock down seems inevitable.

It's very unclear as to whether or not golf is part of the exercise point - mentioned walking/running but didn't mention any sports.

Also, gatherings of two was not directly related to exercise.

Further, the exercise part was limited to people within your household so that then contrasts the 2 people gatherings part.

Would think that golf will be classed as a non essential business.

Just heard that the West at N Berwick is closed.

Problems I would imagine in maintenance as green staff will need to be at home.

Could be lots of rough when it all re-opens - even on the greens!!

A lot of contradicting info coming out this morning. Michael Gove on GMB this morning providing unclear guidance regarding construction workers and children with split households.

Live reporter outside Scotland Yard then stated that golf could be played if playing alone or with members of same household. This is what causes problems as inconsistent views start filtering out.

I would like to think, that greenstaff could get special dispensation as key workers.

This could cover all GC, stately homes, public parks.

I think the SGU directive clears that one up for us mate.

Think there might be a market for golf re-hab clinics going forward

Instead of the Betty Ford Clinic., might see a chain of Tiger Woods clinics opening ( he has got first hand experience obviously)🤣

Brave or irresponsible stance depending on your view.

Extract from Scottish Golf:

While golf is an outdoor sport that allows players to exercise in the fresh air, the message to all of us is clear, we must stay home and play our part in containing the spread of COVID-19.

With this in mind, Scottish Golf asks that all golfers in Scotland refrain from golfing until further notice.

We understand that this advice will have a significant impact on golf clubs across the country and we will continue to consult with industry partners to provide clubs with all information and support possible during this time of deep uncertainty.

Whilst this is hard to accept for some (including myself), complying with the request should lead to a quicker resumption for us all.

It does appear that maintenance work is allowed so at least the courses should be in good shape when we return.

Stay Safe.

Ive been chipping in the garden after taking inspiration from Harrington's online masterclasses. Come the time when we return to the course, I'm hoping my short game is sharp. 🤞
