I agree, but the contest has developed a lot over the last couple of decades and you can’t help but feel like despite a huge public audience paying money to be part of it, it’s just a tight knit committee affair. Over the years the public vote has become a huge thing, but what’s the point in voting if a bunch of men and ladies in suits ultimately decide the outcome.

They tried the public vote only thing but there were so many complaints about political / regional voting that the juries were reintroduced.

To clarify;
37 voting nations plus Rest of the world for a total of 38

38 x 12 is 456 which is the highest possible public score.
Finland got 376
Which is 82.45% of the possible maximum.

Not far off Ukraine’s last year?

So Sweden got 53.29% of the possible maximum.

UK got 1.97%.

Was the winning song worth 1st place.

It wasn't pish.

It was worse than that; it was boring.

Even the costume was beige.

The “expert” judges scoring their points during a dress rehearsal, the day before, seems a bit strange. Why aren’t they watching the main event to form their opinion?

Probably, but performers are more likely to be on top of their game in front of an audience. The atmosphere within the auditorium shouldn't be ignored. It can't be that difficult for them to vote at the same time as the public.

Maybe it is.

There are audiences at the rehearsals.

Yeah and the tickets for those aren't exactly cheap either. I think it's essentially the same show but without the TV broadcast.

There's two rehearsals then the semi final performance then another rehearsal then the final.

So you do the same act 5 times over the week.

Winner does it for a 6th time on the night of the final.

Hmmm….

I wonder how it will sound live - and how well he’ll perform it live.  Seems to be very vocoder (sp?) dependent.

This year's entry...

Disappointed this isn’t a cover of Vic Reeves and the Wonder Stuff’s version of the 60s original.

Haha find him rather creepy and wasn't a fan of Years & Years.

Can just hear Graham Norton gushing all over him already though.

Still it will come last in this Years and Years Europride Contest

I did listen to it to be fair(well first minute), but there is no accounting for taste(yeah) but the Europeans do have a crap taste in music, and this is crap, so could it be in with a shout?
