You shouldn’t be allowed to vote 20 times ffs.
Enjoyed that though, UK song was better than that squealing Yeti last year 😆

The wonderful Gigliola Cinquetti, who got a 1st, then a 2nd, much more to my taste. Showing my age there!

BBC stream saying disappointment in the Stadium - they wanted a Finland win.

The crowd were chanting Cha Cha Cha a lot. I really hoped Finland would sneak it.

But Finland decisively won the public vote

Would love to see the public vote carry a bit more water in future. I don’t know how its calculated but for me, the 180 million watching worldwide are more in touch than some dinosaur committee. Would it make it a popularity contest? Yes. But for me, in the last 20-30 years, thats exactly what Eurovision is about. Listen to that crowd. It seems very fitting that Sweden won, but were they really the best performance? And thats the key word. Performance. Eurovision isn’t just about songwriting and music production. It’s about putting on a 3 minute show that displays your country. Seems year on year, the performers that the people warm to are constantly overlooked.

I suppose that’s what it’s become - but it is the Eurovision Song Contest.  I remember when the winning writers were just as celebrated (and got a gong) as well as the performer.

As a song contest it might be best to judge it on the radio….

I agree, but the contest has developed a lot over the last couple of decades and you can’t help but feel like despite a huge public audience paying money to be part of it, it’s just a tight knit committee affair. Over the years the public vote has become a huge thing, but what’s the point in voting if a bunch of men and ladies in suits ultimately decide the outcome.

To clarify;
37 voting nations plus Rest of the world for a total of 38

38 x 12 is 456 which is the highest possible public score.
Finland got 376
Which is 82.45% of the possible maximum.
