I watched the replay of the supposed deflection and it was very difficult to tell. Easy (and I am not defending his overall performance here) for the ref to say it was a goal kick. Most times as a player you would just raise your arms toward the ref in a “wtaf” gesture and move on. Ginnelly took petulance to a new level. looked like a clear deflection from where I was in the Main Stand. He was looking to get after Ginnelly after his first minute challenge,
Canscot
I saw it from the angle behind the goal and it was unclear from that angle. I think behind the goal is a better angle to see it from than side on from main stand. You are also ignoring the fact Ginnelly ran aggressively toward the ref and his nose was all of three inches from the refs. I have reffed in my past and I am a diehard Jambo. I would have booked him for that too. There were other parts of the game where the ref , no doubt, had a shocker of a game. But then we should be accustomed to that by now. Irritatingly officious and pedantic and couldn't get his cards out quickly enough. Both of them teachers too. For the second game in a row it felt like we were up against it from the start because of the ref. Is this an issue in other leagues in Europe or a peculiarly Scottish thing because most kids in the greater Glasgow area grow up supporting either Celtic or Rangers? Scottish football is set up to engineer success for Rangers and Celtic. It is generally understood, these two clubs are deemed best to represent Scotland . To imagine this process does not involve officialdom is unrealistic. Progress within officialdom is tied to understanding your role and performing it dutifully. There will be the odd **** up e.g missing something obvious against the OF which may slow down your progress. SectionDJambo
Walsh is the referee who was referred to at the Celtic AGM recently in not very favourable terms. Celtic, for all their ludicrous paranoia about not getting a fair shake from referees, maybe they think they know something about this guy’s loyalties to another entity in their neck of the woods. We are certainly going to be subjected to some chaotic refereeing for some years to come with the emergence of Walsh and Robertson. It was certainly chaotic today. I agree wholeheartedly however , if Boyce lobs Mcgregor to put us 1-0 up after 5 minutes it's a different dynamic. We are close to challenging these weegie *******s to the extent of making the officials impotent. They will always give them the benefit of dubious offside calls and iffy penalties but with VAR on the horizon the Glasgow referees are on their last legs. I don,t know what the answer is, but neither do the clubs as they seem to accept this season after season. Not only have they got financial advantage, but every other part of the whole set up as well. DS98
Walsh was out his depth today no doubt about it but he wasn’t the reason we lost. We had better possession, shots on goal:target, chances, corners. We never took any of our chances, they took 2 of theirs. Walsh just made a frustrating afternoon 10x worse with his blatant incompetence. He took 76 mins to book McGregor today when he should’ve inside 20 mins. McGregor took the absolute piss out of him. His booking of Halkett would’ve been acceptable had it not been for half a dozen similar fouls by a Sevco player that went unpunished. Morelos celebrating in front of the hearts fans then taking 20 mins to walk back into his own half after the first goal. Kent kicking the ball away from Gordon in the first half. Gino’s booking was a farce. He just seemed terrified of the Sevco players in general. 12 cards in a game that possibly merited 3 or 4. All in all a pretty much expected performance from a west coast official in an old firm game.
