It was rumoured that there was a large amount of money for the winner, if they could ever get the two to race, which Wells seemingly always refused to run against McNeill, especially after he was Olympic champion. My money would have been on McNeill to win, by christ that guy was fast, had the misfortune to run against him a couple of times, that was a complete mis-match, more like the tortoise & the hare , at least feeling like being a tortoise was what it felt like when McNeill flew past you, how anybody could run that fast, I'll never know.
