Anything2
33 minutes ago, BackOfTheNet said: Those of us who don’t want Cummings are suggesting no such thing. Personally I’m just saying that he would be 3rd choice striker so if we are going to bring in back up for Boyce and Naismith (agreed backup is a requirement) then we can spend less on a decent backup (if backup is not already at the club). And the proven goal scorer thing has not been tried and tested for years. Do I think he would score goals in the Championship? Probably. Do I believe he would do it in the Premiership if we get promoted? Jury’s out on that and so far in similar levels he’s not done it prolifically at all. Do I believe we would need him to get promoted in the first place? Not at all. So if we don’t need him specifically to get promoted and he’d likely not score the goals that we need in the Premiership either, then what’s the point of paying a fee and wages on him? Not to mention his unnecessary baggage. There will be options either at the club already or available without a fee needing paid (loan?) and less wages Cummings would require. Just doesn’t make sense to spend money when we don’t have to. That's kind of where I am, he would need to be cheap as he would be singed in the hope that he doesn't play, in that Naismith and Boyce would need to be injured or suspended for him to be a first pick. I don't really like the idea of singing "championship specialists' although I accept that it may be necessary in some instances and Robbie is a bit of a pragmatist so I wouldn't be surprised if he did that. However I think a different style of forward would compliment the squad more and give us more options. And if, as we hope, the league is tied up early, I would rather use game time to develop someone with potential if we have or can get them in rather than pad a lower league striker's career stats. It is disappointing that it seems again our youth players will not be given a chance to see what they can do. If we do not give them a chance this season then they will be 20-22 next season and then what will be the excuse, can not risk them as we are back to the premier league. Youth should only play consistently if good enough, not because they are young. Only Hickey and Irvine showed any consistency. Moore was showing positive signs as well. Macdonald who I like, the jury is still out and harry was injured for a lot of the season and struggled to get a game at Dunfermline. We need to come up easily, getting to the sc final before Xmas would be a bonus, whether it's youth or signings that get us there it doesn't matter. Youth should only be played if good enough, not for the sake of it, same for the top league. Our signings so far are a winger and Gordon, what is bad about that, we needed both? Hickey was fortunate due the lack of LBs and took his opportunity to shine. However his defensive positioning did result in mistakes that resulted in goals being conceded. Such errprs would have been cricitised if committed by more experienced players. Hearts need a settled starting XI with formation and tactics that the squad are comfortable with. As q wiseman once said "if they are good enough they are old enough" however another said "you will win nothing with youth"

Not just that, lots of clubs can offer him that, if your him what's the motivation to moving to Hearts for a similar wage? Lower level, same money, move house... A guy like Norwood imo would only move to us if we can offer him more money / longer deal than other offers. If you go into that territory paying £100k or so for a transfer for someone on less wages becomes actually less expensive than the free transfer. £100k transfer and £2 /3k a week is actually cheaper than a free transfer on £4k a week. Over 3/4 years its far cheaper . Cummings for example might be keen to come back to Scotland and Edinburgh, a guy like Norwood would need an incentive to do so, a relatively big one imo.
