Still the 2nd best keeper in Scotland.

Welcome home lad.

Massive improvement from what we have.

to all the hibs looking in..... skint.....:robboyas:

Fair doos to signing for us now, if in the championship surely his Scotland days are numbered.

Not necessarily, there is a difference between being an outfield player and a goalkeeper when playing at a lower level,  being the last line of defense he will have saves to make, a good save is a good save regardless of level.

The only difference is that he won't get the same tv exposure but we are a big enough club and he's a big enough name that Scotland scouts/coaches will be keeping an eye on him.

I mind him hitting the ball directly into the pie stand behind the goals.

And that was a pass back.

Welcome home, Craig! Now that has brightened my day.

I’m no sports medicine specialist, but I do wonder whether his extended periods of not playing may have extended his shelf life a bit (less wear and tear on the joints, etc). Could just be wishful thinking though.

How are we pulling this off, surely he was on decent money at Celtic? I can only assume we know we are staying up

He was on decent money but was offered reduced terms. I think playing at this stage of his career outweighs the money. He must have a few quid in the bank.

Great signing.  Stays fit then hopefully Harry Stone may start replacing him in 2/3 years

Hardly a surprise, but great news.

For the first time in a while, we have a top quality keeper at the Club

There’s also been plenty Hearts fans on here who kept worrying about finances and went on about what we can and cannot afford.

Maybe they’ll get the cigars out and relax a bit?.😁

We’ve had a few great keepers in my time going to Tynecastle. From Henry to Annti Niemi to big Rousset but Craig Gordon tops them all. Great to see him back.

Henry Smith will always be a legend in my eyes. As a young teen i started going to football around the time he signed from Leeds Utd. Not many players can say they were the main goalkeeper at a club for the best part of 13 years. A few like Murray McDermott, Nicky Walker, Andy Bruce and Craig Nelson came and went. Never mind the competition he already had when he signed from Ian Westwater and John Brough. Gilles Rousset was the one who eventually got him out of goal, closely followed by Antti Niemi.

Was too young to remember Cruikshank or anyone else but we've done quite well over the decades with goalies. After Craig Gordon,  Marian Kello was a great keeper as well and Jamie McDonald done us a turn. Alexander did well and not forgetting Jon McLaughlin. Seems only in recent years we've struggled, Doyle, Zlamal and Perreira. Roddy McKenzie was nothing special but was still a better prospect than either of those three.

Was  a sub for Celtic in first cup game v Partick in January 2020 is he cup tied?

Thankfully not.

“The players in a team may be changed from match to match, but a club may not play, or list as a named substitute, any player who, in the same season, has already played (as one of the 11 first-named players or as a fielded substitute), for another club in the competition.”

He’s just signed a new contract at Burnley and is in their squads all the time.  File it under no chance.

Has anyone floated Laffertys name for a return yet?

Theres a vocal amount of posters that hate old faces returning or being suggested.

With Lafferty, I think we've lost Maclean, Wighton has no future and neither should Uche. Shipping those 3 out and bringing someone who will compete with Boyce every step of the way would be a really good idea. Genuine competition in a problem area.

Makes sense to me tbh.

I hope Craig can soldier on into his 40s. He said Buffon was one of his heroes so lets see if he can match him on the age front :)

Mate my son had 2 footballing heroes. One was buffon the other gordon. This is a brilliant signing steady as a ship. Goalies can play till 41/42. Could be the start of what could be a brilliant week for us. Now lets f_ck the spfl.

Uche would be a useful option up front if we end up in the Championship, but he's not a Premiership striker.

Lafferty returning would be welcome but at what cost? I doubt he comes cheap and with Gordon back, that's a decent chunk of a wage bill.

Yeah and tbh, Doyle is perfect back up

He'll not complain, do his best when asked

Bobby will surely end up back home, he will want a last gig.

:muggy:    Only if we never, EVER, have to call upon him to actually play.

He's brutal, sorry to say, and "his best" is nowhere near good enough.

Anyway, great to have CG back and a great goalie between the sticks again!   :HeartsManspotrun:  :jambobanana:

Good signing.  I'm glad there will still be at least one player older than myself in the squad for another two years.  When that stops you know your old.

Just watched his interview (cheers for putting the link up OTT), he looks like he's excited and looking forward to his new challenge.

We already have a younger, potentially better keeper, his name is Harry Stone, but he is nowhere near ready yet.

For the next couple of years I will be ecstatically happy that we have made an utterly fantastic signing in Craig Gordon.

Hopefully he can take over in two or three years time, his potential will need to be realised soon though as he’s only months younger than Gordon was when he made his debut.

We're Hearts in Scotland, possibly in the championship.

Until Stone is ready, Doyle is fine for number 2.

We will never have 2 Gordon quality goalies in the squad at the same time, it's unrealistic.

It is a good idea but in the current climate getting them off the wage bill won’t be easy, three strikers with less than three goals for us last season.

Great signing in a position that has been consistently awful recently and where its had a huge bearing on where we find ourselves now.

Gordon in goal and we wouldnt have finished near bottom.

He was offered £4000 per week basic by Celtic on a one year deal....a quarter of what was his last salary from them for season 19/20

I'm not asking for that, nor expecting it; I simply don't think Doyle is anywhere near good enough even for a back-up 'keeper. However, as he's under contract and it's very unlikely anyone else would want to sign him, we're stuck with him.

Start by signing the best 'keeper you can when building a team. The lad Clough knew what he was talking about.

Well pleased. Welcome back CG.

I’d imagine that’s more or less what he’ll be getting here.

A couple of bad mistakes aside (I remember Rousset being described as brutal after his first few games) Doyle wasn't that bad. 13 games, 14 goals conceded and 6 clean sheets. I remember some good saves that helps us win points to counterbalance the bad mistakes the cost us points. Either Zlamal or Doyle would be fine as back-up. I'd rather keep Zlamal though.

Even just having 2 or 3 of Haring, Souttar, Naismith, Halkett, Washington and Walker not injured for most of the season would have seen us finish nowhere near bottom.

Definitely needed a reliable goalie though. In terms of the damage he did Pererra has to be one of our worst signings. Mystifying why he wasn't dropped sooner.

No I posted this on the thread last night

Appreciate a few posters thought he would still be but I think rules changed from the example they gave.
