Scientists are "cautiously hopeful" that inoculation could control the pandemic. They found that a single dose of Oxford AZ or Pfizer prevented about 65% of all infections. Also found that of those infected, they produced a lower viral load and therefore likely to transmit less virus. They were "pleasantly surprised " by the findings . Gizmo
We don't even need this argument about lockdown v vaccines, as we've got two excellent real world examples. Israel had the fastest rollout and timed their exit from lockdown carefully - they've suppressed their case numbers brilliantly. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-021-01337-2 Chile had the third (I think) fastest rollout but opened up quicker than they vaccinated (even though their lockdown included a night-time curfew) - and are in a new wave (there are also some grumblings over the efficacy of their Sinovax, nothing concrete though). https://www.bmj.com/content/373/bmj.n1023 If we get this right we should be good and that has to be the end of lockdowns which are a painful, blunt hammer of a tool compared to the vaccine's, fittingly, sharp needle. (your 14 February jab would have been reported on 15 February) Around 275k 2nd doses have still to be given to match the 1st dose figures as at 14 February, which will take another 6 days at current vaccination rates. We should then be doing the 2nd doses corresponding to the 3rd week in February, so your 1 May date is in line with that.
