Just watched Nicola on the Nine and she said you should not be going to work unless it's is essential and she will be talking to employers to explain to them what is essential

Good because until they spell it out to my company they will stay open putting people at risk.

People car share, stand together at smoke shelters, congregate in groups here. There are anywhere up to 500 folk in here at once - but yet you aren't allowed mass gatherings?

Until they stop leaving it to assumption and actually state what companies are allowed to operate, companies will rip the arse out it.

Bollocks, everyone had to go and ruin it for those of us being responsible. My partner and I don't live together and now it will be against the rules to go to each other's houses which after a week of self-isolating (barring 1 trip to the shop) to make sure neither of us had it is pretty depressing.

Cyber sex. A friend tells me it can be fun.

FFS, is the population really this daft? Some of the stuff I have seen on social media make we wonder....it’s pretty bloody clear to even a half educated human.

Nope, it's so the brickies can keep laying bricks. Nothing has been done for the self employed yet, so the brickies are working on to keep paying their bills.

I doubt it's going to help that he specified people should go out for food as 'infrequently as possible". How can you do that without buying a lot?

Because to survive a few days or even weeks you really don't need to buy a lot frequently. We have friends who have a chest freezer packed with food who are out every day scouring several supermarkets.

The "infrequently" bit did strike me as an invitation to fill your boots.

Not all companies are as irresponsible as yours. Mine went to working from home a week ago if you had laptop and were able to do so, have sent mail out confirming that where wfh not an option, health comes first and that you will be paid even if you can't get into work. Actually think they have done a great job.

We are a key worker company  but with Skype, webex, and mobiles, we will make it work, because in reality, we cannot allow failure.

I think it will calm down.  The UK pattern mirrored that of both Spain and Italy. Empty shelves, then once the lockdowns happened the supermarkets slowly went back to normal.  The recent pictures of the Spanish shops have shelves fully stocked and next to no one in them. It will be the delivery services that go into overdrive now.

This. Our supermarkets were stripped bare on the first weekend of the lockdown but last weekend the only thing we were lacking was a wide choice of meat nevertheless there was plenty of bbq food!

There is no way the army could lockdown a population which didn't accept the need to lockdown. Shooting? Mass arrest and internment?

So who is going to enforce it then ?

And please, don’t say the police.

The army could enforce it without the use of guns.

Just like the police are expected to.

Folk will go out more than once, or twice, or thrice a day.

Once or twice for ‘exercise’.

Once or twice for ‘essential shopping’.

Couple of times (at least) to ‘walk the dog’.

At least once a day to ‘visit the pharmacy’.

Honestly, they will.

Couples will go out together.  They will not distance themselves from each other by a minimum of 1 metre.

Honestly, they won’t.

So, so open to abuse, this ruling.

So brickies putting cash before health, not just for them but for their families, friends and colleagues? Are they truly that thick or just selfish beyond belief. Should be fined as soon as they set foot into their work.

The government have said they will be putting forward plan for self employed in next day or two, but these guys cannot wait.

I also didn’t realise Amazon were still doing deliveries of non-essential items.

https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-amazon-suspends-all-non-essential-shipments-to-warehouses-2020-3?amp

Also read a story that they had stopped delivering non-essential items in France and Italy.

I was sure I read an Guardian article that this was also the case in the UK, but perhaps it was speculation.

With the lockdown now in place, I would be surprised if you could continue buying Non-essentials in the UK pretty soon.

I know there was talk of builders merchants being classed as essential so not 100% certain that site deliveries will stop unless the site is closed.

I once lived in a shoebox in Chelsea - the landlord thoguht it better that the apartment had a dishwasher over a washing machine. Even worse the turning handle was missing so if I used it I had to do it with pliers. Taking washing to the laudrette was a royal pain in the ass. I use to get shirts laundered at  dry cleaners  at S Kensington Tube Station but the Saturday morning trip to the Laudrette every 2 weeks was worse...

Your apartment doesn't sound much like a shoebox to me. My bedsit in Earls Court had a Baby Belling.  Dishwasher? Washing machine? Come on.   I took my shirts to the laundrette and ironed them myself. Laundered at a dry cleaners?

Sorry if this is a bit Monty Python Yorkshire sketch but ...

Amazon owner said on Bloomberg that they are delivering orders, but are prioritising orders with essentials first and the remainder when they can.

Not it sure if 'specialist magazines' count as essential though.

This wasn’t part of the advice, in fact it specially mentioned groups of 2 or more people excluding those in the same household.

It would be mental to advise this too, given that most couples live together / share a bed etc.

Or maybe I’ve picked you up wrong?

? I said the landlord for some reason thought a person living alone in a shoebox would want a dishwasher instead of a washing machine. There was no washing machine, as there was only space for one machine - that's why I had to use a laundrette...

Seem to be asking folk on the news if they could cope with doing one shopping a week?

I dont recall that being mentioned

Id rather continue to walk to Cameron Toll (and make it all part of a longer walk) every second or third day and buy what I deemed a few essentials rather than do a weekly hoard.

I only mentioned the couples thing because of the sheer nonsense of the ruling here in France, and stupidly assumed it would be the same in the UK.

My error, apologies, you didn’t pick me up wrongly at all.

We find it absolutely ridiculous that we live together, sleep together, do more or less everything together but, when we step outside we have to walk 40 feckin inches apart!

And my post was saying the idea of a choice betwen a dishwasher and a washing machine seemed a bit exotic to me. And that using a laundrette (had to)  was hardly a hardship.

The one positive from this is that it's great to see that the French have reverted to good old Imperial units for their restrictions. Splendid!!!
