As previously stated, we have no idea of the age, viral load or underlying health issues of those that died each day. We also don't know how many patients are in critical condition and expected to die tomorrow. You can't read anything into day by day statistics. Statistics only matter when looked at as a long term pattern. Even then how many people died of Covid-19 but went undiagnosed and therefor not included in the figures? Critical/ serious are known. Indeed, if we didn't look at or keep up to date with the current stats then how would we know if the measures being put into place were working or not, we also need to see what other countries are doing to see if what they are doing is working or not as well and follow that model if needed. Right now I don't give a flying feck what the stats are going to be when this is over, because I, no we, are living through this in the here and now, and getting through today and staying healthy is all that matters right now. The goverment pay experts to look at stats, run computer modelling and they will then advise us of next steps. I do worry what other countries do, as I have relatives in 7 countries, including some of the worst hit in Europe. Also in Asia and the USA. I do follow the stats every day. I don’t need computer models to tell me what the general trends are. Basically just looking for hope.
AlimOzturk
How come UK have much lower numbers in comparison to Italy/Spain? Both of them are getting much higher numbers daily than we have in total. Just curious if there is any theory's as to why. Considering the lack of hurry and lack of giving a shit by UK citizens I am struggling to understand why it would spread like wild fire in some places but not others. Germany is the same. Footballfirst
If today's figures are accurate and not an outlier, then it looks encouraging for the UK that it won't hit the peaks that Italy has experienced. When the death figures were matched at 233, the UK was 14 days behind Italy. It took two days for Italy to reach 463 deaths, while the UK took four days to hit 465. It that continues, then the UK will have flattened the curve below that of Italy.

jambo89
Could the numbers from Italy be viewed as a positive? Although the numbers are high, the past 3 days, they seemed to have “bottomed” out. As long as they hold steady at or around 750 deaths per day it would suggest that there is a degree if control in the numbers. Or maybe I’m just being overly positive. The new cases for the last 4 days are below that of the peak number. It could be that they aren't doing as much testing meaning they get fewer positives, however the numbers do appear to be flattening, rather than "bottoming". If they have reached a peak, then it is reasonable to infer that the lock down has been effective, but the the down side of the curve will take a similar time, e.g. 4 more weeks before they get down to "manageable" numbers (double/single figures?) and restrictions can start to be eased. The UK however, is still on the upward part of the curve, so I'd guess that it will be another six weeks or so before we should be looking at easing some restrictions. I would say, that both countries really struggling and no real improvements, new death figures rising and the critical rising at a faster rate. It's all down to how accurate the daily figures are., some dont get reported, as you will see above. I read it as a new death figure would most likely have been on the previous days critical @Footballfirst @AlphonseCapone

Both of them are getting much higher numbers daily than we have in total. Just curious if there is any theory's as to why. Considering the lack of hurry and lack of giving a shit by UK citizens I am struggling to understand why it would spread like wild fire in some places but not others. Germany is the same. This may have already been answered but I think Spain is testing more than the UK. Unless people are tested, and I could be wrong here, they won’t be added to the figures. Considering the advice from the NHS is to stay home for 2 weeks there could be many with it that we don’t know about. What’s concerning is that is happening here too - just last night i was Skyping friends here who all have the typical symptoms but they aren’t being tested either. The numbers in Spain will be worse than the figures released. Edited March 26, 2020 by King prawn

Even weirder that excitement grows because numbers are released a wee while later than the day before. Just picture you guys calling the family down so you can all sit round the tv together shouting ' Hurry kids, the death number from Spain is coming on'. Surprised there's not a sweep. Everybody calm down, it's only some dark humour in these crap times.

Not accurate, but still indicative. edit Do you live in Madrid? Edited March 26, 2020 by Tommy Brown
