Picture taken in 1917, I wonder where they took that shot from? Had it been much later I'd have said from a flat in Coillesdene House, but that wasn't built until the 1960's. Anyone know what was on the site before the flats were built?

Comely Bank. In the foreground the Accies playing fields. Top right Fettes. The larger playing fields may have been part of Fettes but is now Broughton High and the late ground above is the plods HQ.

It looks like it was taken from the tower of the original Coillesdean House.

Very true. When I was about 19/20 there was a big recruitment drive for people to train up to drive those buses and I decided to give it a bash.

The first part was an aptitude test which I got a call about a couple of days later. I passed but 'failed' because Id scored too highly.

Just trying to think what the set up here was. People waiting at a bus stop presumably heading West but all the buses heading West are on the East direction lane due to roadworks.

Could it have been when the tram lines were being removed and the roads repaved

Is that Bruce Peebles? Watched that from the roof of VQ in Leith, bit worrying as my mum and dad's house was just beside it.

It is indeed, I can remember it well, was in a meeting with Railtrack in Waverley Station (now Network Rail) discussing supply upgrades when we were called out.

Many a movie I watched there, went in army uniform one afternoon, sat in the side balcony, ended up going out after the show with one of the usherettes. Pooles Synod Hall.

Wasn't "successful" in the usherette department but did go through a spell in my teens when I would go there to catch the odd horror film. :curtain:

I remember sitting in that right-hand balcony and sometimes coming out with a  sair neck.

Yep that was going to be my follow up point.

I peed many a time in those bogs after coming down from The Baillie or Kay's Bar enroute to the next Stockeree watering hole.
