As a 16yo postie in the mid 80s I used to get a pie n pint there every Friday LT when delivering the mail.

Almost as enjoyable as Mrs Blacks Daughter at 38 Biggar Rd flashing the puppies at me every time she heard me coming down the path

🍌💦

I think I’ve asked you this before but, you and your brother used to kick about Morningside, didn’t you?

this is Restalrig Road South jcn with Loaning Road which is in Craigentinny area east of Meadowbank.
The building in front was owned by a company called `Munrospun` iirc.

I once went to a dentist in a block there, one that's behind the trees. When the flats were emptied, prior to some being demolished and others refurbished, about 30 years ago, the dentist moved into another council flat nearby. That flat was identical to the one I lived in at the time.  It was weird sitting waiting in a bedroom,  then going through to get root canal work and fillings in the kitchen.

It must have been some size. The building with the tower at the back, on Restalrig Drive was part of it too (and is the only part still there).

Did they have any kind of pedestrian crossing system then? If not, I don't fancy the chances of the wifey crossing behind the pack top right.

Every time I see a picture from this era I’ve always got a smile looking at the “ wonky” building. Nothing is in line and it looks like it’s about to collapse at any minute . Still got the same pot holes in the road today .

Cracking pic. I will post one from the 70’s I think below.

When the station was rebuilt to the concrete version - did they knock the pub down and rebuild or did they just reclad it ?

the travellers tryst.

Love the posts Maroon Sailor. What a city.

It's a very photogenic city that's for sure - some of the old phots in the 50's and 60's are superb. Looked like a great time to live in Edinburgh

Yes, that's the Calder Road going diagonally across.

The dark coloured houses, middle right, are the wooden clad houses on Sighthill Drive, shown below.

👍

In this later photo, coming down from Wester Hailes, the wooden houses, which look strangely light, are by the telegraph pole and you can just see the prefabs on the left either side of the stonework of the canal bridge.

Used to play in those 'woods' bottom right in the early 70's when I lived in Calder Gardens, they're just in front of what is now Westburn. Great times building gang huts, tree houses, tarzan swings etc etc
