Seymour M Hersh
Is it likely demolition will stop tonight to use tomorrow to clear access ways to enter and exit the stadium safely on Saturday? DETTY29
We're all getting issued with hard hats to gain access to the Main Stand on Saturday. Elf & Safety & all that. Need to be grey then. Think they are about ?3.50 a pop. White Managers, foremen, engineers or supervisors usually wear white hats on site. Brown Brown hats are worn by welders and other workers with high heat applications. Green Green often signifies a safety inspector but can also be used by new workers on the site or probationary staff. Yellow Yellow is the colour for general labourers and earth moving operators. Blue Carpenters and other technical operators including electricians will normally wear blue hard hats, while orange is worn by road crews. Grey Grey is the colour often worn by site visitors. And if employees forget their hats or misplace them, there is often a nice bright pink helmet on site they have to wear in the meantime. tian447
Are people actually debating that Easter Road looks better than Tynecastle? Get a ****ing grip. It's a minging colour of green (also, the wrong colour of green for their club), has entirely mismatched stands that are made from cinderblocks, has no clear grand entrance, and looks like something you'd find at an out of town retail park. First48
Was driving down McLeod St today, great to see the work started. Couldn't help but think the old school site is such a waste, covered in graffiti and looks in almost disrepair. I get issuing listed status and conserving old buildings but what is the point in letting an old, pretty ugly looking building, waste away? Should just be knocked down and let someone else develop on it, particularly if you are trying to regenerate the area.

BM1874
Steady lad! More so that I've grown up and always known the main stand to have Those buildings in front of it To see it unobstructed it looks to be a real shame to have hidden it away behind the old builds we had. Can't wait to see it all away and that shiny new stand in its place though But hopefully when the buildings are all down someone can get a high resolution image of how it looks, would be nice tonhave

Get a grip The 3 existing stands are all pretty much obscured by the building around them so their external aesthetic quality is frankly a non issue. The external focal point will be the stunning new glass fa?ade and plaza to the main entrance of the new stand - this will rival any stadium of similar size in the UK, and frankly ER will fade into insignificance by comparison. Now with regards to the look inside the stadium. Once the new stand is complete there will be simple design continuity of the completed enclosed stadium, with the completion of the impressive roof trusses around the complete stadium, with high banked seating dominating the pitch - all creating a fabulous and intimidating atmosphere. ER on the hand has 4 separate boxes of differing size and shape, that kills the atmosphere - regardless of how many empty seats there are. Lucille's Thirsty
I sat in the old stand for many a year , it holds many memories from when I started going to games in the late 70's , I would never refer to her as a dump. I appreciate that you have memories of the main stand but it's had it's day our stadium will look fabulous with a main stand we can all be proud off. Lucille's Thirsty
Sorry - what was hard to understand was this bit: "all their stands... look more completed than ours at the moment" You meant the stadium looks more complete because they have 4 new stands as opposed to our 3. Fair enough. It read like you thought their new stands looked more complete than ours, which seemed weird. ?Agree with the rest of the post. That's the point I was trying to make our stands apart from the relic are all better than Easter Roads no doubt but their stadium has a more finished look to it whilst ours sort off looks like we've done the gorgie wheatfield and roseburn but still have the main stand to go? BigC
Will there ever be a time this season or next when no fans will be allowed in the old stand for games? The plan is to avoid that by getting help from the league regarding fixtures and by having some of the structural work done prior to the old stand coming down so that we can go from old stand to new in the close season. It'a always seemed tight... presumably there will be a contingency plan in place, which would either be postponing a game, or playing the first game with three stands and compensating ST holders for that one game / not selling walk ups and relocating fans, with a very small away end to accommodate everyone else. The official answer is no, but you can never tell with these things.
Gizmo
There's a fair bit of glass in the frontage of the Falkirk stadium. I quite like their main stand. Coincidentally they also house a nursery within the confines of the stand. I miss old Brockville. Nothing like needing army assault course training to clamber out of the away terracing in almost pitch black conditions with brickwork and other debris just casually lying in waiting. Even during the night matches their floodlights were so poor you sometimes could only spot a player if the light bounced off their bald noggin or they had really white teeth. ER looks lovely indeed I've never quite figured out which was their main stand - they all seem to be unfinished/undesigned on the outside - all extruded scaffolding, bare concrete and mismatched support trusses and with absolutely zero effort at design or aesthetics. Was that a deliberate stylistic choice by their architect who has been so enamoured by this project that he has phoned his designs in? Nae joy for them then. Ta. Was just looking at some ariel shots of both stadiums and it's glaring how mis-matched theirs really are. https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSgl5nG4L6AbFjH694lTje4pDINFE5UWkSMZtIlIvFIHZ7Upfs9_oN1KShcFQ Can't wait to see the updated version of this in a year with 4 tightly packed stands. Why are all 4 stands not equidistant from each other? Why the odd cutouts and massive gaps between the stands - surely their architect must have been able to work within that footprint to create a cohesive stadium design? They are far less constrained by what is around them than we are. Why is the roof of the away stand such a mess? Also - not shown in that shot - why did they go for a "faux" two-tier design when they haven't even extended the top-tier out over the lower one which was generally the purpose of that design choice? That "main" stand has absolutely nothing to identify it - infact it looks like the outside of a dole office or modern court or correctional facility. Ah, oops now I get it - it's to make their scummy fans feel at home, right? A windy, soul-less, mismatching, dump entirely bereft of character or identity. Suits them. I'm no ER lover, but it's also fair to say their stands are not as far apart as we think. Stick a floodlight tower and a walkway between and is their much difference? Look at the photo - you could probably get a 737 through that gap... Edited November 24, 2016 by Gizmo

Mundaydog
Thanks Craigyboy. The old stand does look terrific without the shanners in front of it - as others have already stated. A quick way to boost cash in previous years would have been to knock down those buildings and have a brilliant fan zone type area in the new square/plaza that would have been created. Beer tents/face painting/music etc. I suppose with our resistance to anything other than winter football a soup tent/ hat stall would be more apt. I went to the NFL game at Wembley a couple of years ago, Fan zones outside the stadium made a fortune. Couldn't see the tail gate parties catching on over here but the amount of beer and food getting bought and the merchandizing for sale in the Fan zone must have made them a fortune. Once you where through the gates which were a distance from the actual stadium, you are a captive audience, Big screens with loads of different sport on, beer, food, stuff for kids to do. Easy money
