I enjoyed Ad Astra but it was very slow paced, and a bit over-reliant on voiceovers. Did like the reference to Kalamazoo though :ninja:

Bohemian Rhapsody.

Thought it was rotten tbh. Never been a huge Queen fan after my best mate played them to death during our high school years. Found the crowd scenes really offputting/annoying...almost as much as Freddie's teeth!

5. And that's being generous.

My god that was awful.

Do not waste your time watching this crap.

A horror movie that is arty pish.

Boring story that's been done before (wickerman)

Would rather watch the remake of Wickerman than this.

Even the gore looks terrible.

Enjoyed it although a horrible tragedy that doesn't get the same recognition as others as it didn't happen in the west.

I found it to be an interesting (if disturbing) watch. If completely accurate, the timescale for the forces to arrive was a surprise!

Completely agree about the recognition comment. Amazing that the hotel became fully restored in such a short time.

Lego Movie Second Part

Funny funny film, just like the first. Some of the comedy is risky and the music scores are excellent. Not quite as good as the first for me but that's a tough benchmark, people that liked the first one will enjoy it

" Judy" .  This was pretty good tracing her last few months before dying at 47.  Renee Zwellwegger really caught the essence of her but the film had a lot of factual errors that die hard fans would know where inaccurate but as i said it caught the essence of this incredible talent. 7/10

Judy

As usual with BBC Films, this film is a product and a strong and well made one. Excellent from start to finish, full of great acting, infact I would say Zelleweger's performance is one of the strongest I've anywhere. She is unhinged, committed and giving it her all every scene. Highly recommended. I can forgive it the factual errors as at the end of the day it is a film and they are meant to be entertaining, this certainly is

Not being aware of much of her life story, I didnt pick up on any inaccuracies that others may have. This probably made Judy more of an enjoyable film as I wasnt picking up on any faults.

Not a great fan of Zellweger but there was an interview with her on the Simo Mayo show on 5live yesterday and she came over really well.

I am a fan. Lol.  Yeah there were loads of inaccuracies.. Examples being.  She met her last husband Mickey Deans in 1965 as he dealt her drugs and in the film they apparently met at a party in 1968. It glamorised their relationship. He as well as most of the men in her life saw her as a meal ticket for them.   She wasn't singing for her supper as such. In 1968 she played to over 150,000 at an open air concert .  Also she didn't sing " By myself " at The Talk of the town concerts (minor issue) She didn't fall out with Deans either .  He was the one who found her dead in the bathroom  in June 22nd 1969.   Also she her appearances at The Talk of the town, whilst chaotic where generally well reserved. Her actual final live concerts were in March 1969 in Denmark and not Talk of the town.  Also her relationship with her  kids was fictionalised as such.  She left them in the US but wasn't that much interested in   them as most addicts are.  However it certainly got to the heart of who she was. A warm , humorous . sensitive and compassionate woman who was terribly abused all her life.  They also got over her eternal optimism which managed to get her through her adversities. I honestly think she was just worn out and thats why she died so young.

Cheers. Didnt know any of that.

I took from the film that the way she was treated when she was young led her to have a troubled adult like ie due to the strict control the studio had over her and being forced to take pills of various kinds.

The film (imo) portrayed her as very much a people person who loved attention and pleasing people (the two guys she befriended in the film werent based on real people but was meant to reflect her relationships with many people who came to her shows - as per 5live interview).

The downside to her character was definitely her addictions  and some people would take advantage of her due to her weaknesses. It is hard to believe that someone so talented with so many years performing behind them could be in financial trouble but this could have been due to people treating her like a cash cow and her addictions.

The film for all its inaccuracies has brought at least part of her life to the attention of many. Before the film I only knew her as Dorothy in TWOZ and being the mother of Liza Minnelli.

Yeah thats all pretty accurate.  She was viewed as a cash cow at MGM as a child star then was a cash cow in adult life as a concert performer.  She was very much old school regarding husbands and agents and let them handle the " financial" side hence them exploiting this and her ended up eventually with no money . as portrayed in the film.  Her agents in the 1960s embezzled money from her which left her in so much debts she just had to keep working and working. However like many performers was also addicted to the adulation of the crowd and had that need to perform.  So it was a viscous cycle.  Apart from being a great actress she was an outstanding concert performer and literally played thousands of concerts before dying.

Agreed, thought it was fantastic. Phenomenal performance by Phoenix. A masterpiece.

Thought Joker was outstanding. A really dark film dealing, quite thoughtfully at times, with abuse, neglect and mental illness.

As an origin story, something not really seen with Joker previously, it was powerful and I thought masterfully showed how this troubled individual transformed into one of comic books most famous villains.

10/10 - I loved it.
