They will all be letting out massive sighs of relief right now imo. Alex Salmon had them in the forefront of his mind and that man was a persistent and determined individual.

I don’t know how this will work with him gone or if someone will take the reins now that he is gone.

Genuinely still trying to process this news.

Kenny MacAskill more than up to the job both went to school together and Kenny was the sharpest.

Works both ways tbh.

I  dislike the Royal family and religion but sat in silence for the pope and Queen.

Both were embarrassing.

This would go the same way.

Arsholes from both sides of the divide can't act with any sense of decorum.

Most football fan bases are the same.

I stood in silence for the Queen too . Oddball behaviour to try and disrupt it , even though it had no place at a Hearts game

This in spades.

Both try to outdo each other with their mock outrage at the others' antics. Desperately hoping for the other to do the very thing they pretend to be angry about. Be starting again in a few weeks too, tedious boring plebs.

RIP Alex.

The majority will welcome the chance to cheer for the man who loved and tried to do what was best for the club and country that he loved

An applause for a good Hearts man is the right thing to do.

If it's deemed a problem to give him a pre match applause, then have one for those who wish to take part in the 69th minute. It's been done plenty of times for Hearts fans who have passed.

Bit of a shock.

An old school politician that could lead his party. Not many of his gravitas left in Scotland or indeed the UK

Yip . If the club make the mistake of not doing it officially , it will happen anyway

His biggest strength was his ability to project a vision which people believed in - and the reason for that was that he was genuine about it.

The likes of Sturgeon/Humza, in contrast, are massive fakes, and have been shown up as such, to the detriment of Indy movement

All clubs in Scotland should be holding a one minute's applause on Saturday as apart from being a good First Minister of our nation, he was a big supporter of the Tartan Army and helped out when Hearts were facing liquidation.

As there was a minute's applause for Sven Erikson then there should be one for a former First Minister of Scotland

Feeling very sad about this.

He, at one time, gave real hope to a significant percentage of people in Scotland.

One of us too 🇱🇻

RIP Alex.

I was meaning the majority of the fans at the game . Even those who are misguided on Scotlands future would still clap a man who helped save the club that he loved as much as they do

Remember seeing him in France 98 with his big hat on and him being totally loved by the Scottish fans at that time. He was a huge figure in Scottish politics and it’s really sad for him to die at a relatively young age.

I remember feeling bad for McLetchie when he passed as well . Hearts supporters who have done well in their fields and I seriously dislike the Tory party . Eric Milligan sits a couple of metres away from me at Tynecastle and I would applaud him too though hopefully not for many years to come yet

Met him in Munich at the Euro’s got a photo with him , told him I was a Jambo and I mentioned that he will be sick of people asking him for pictures all the time,

he said it’s worse than that and he had to smile even when some told him they were hibs fans . He said it tongue in cheek of course ,

irrespective of various different points of view, RIP to a good Jambo.♥️

Some of the comments on here are a disgrace. I did not share his political ambitions but in a democracy he had the right to express these and seek independence for the country he loved, just as others had the right to reject it. He was a committed Jambo who helped greatly in our hour of need but first and foremost he was a human being who, in his passing, deserves basic decency

Heart of Midlothian Football Club is for all. It is not politically or religiously affiliated and it would be quite inappropriate for it to officially sanction a round of applause either before or during a match for a once prominent politician who has never held a post at the club. The same goes for supporters who wish to mark his passing. Politics is divisive and should be kept out of football; if people want to pay their respects then that is fine, but a football match is not the place.

He was the first minister of our country. Despite the embarrassment when the queen died it was right to acknowledge it. Football is part of the community and the country. Nothing wrong with showing respect.

Just heard the bad news. I am not a Nationalist but loved the way he was head and shoulders as a speaker over almost everyone in the House of Commons and  almost all other politicians generally. RIP Alex.
