I hope his case still Goes ahead and if those are found guilty they deserve all they get

They will all be letting out massive sighs of relief right now imo. Alex Salmon had them in the forefront of his mind and that man was a persistent and determined individual.

I don’t know how this will work with him gone or if someone will take the reins now that he is gone.

Genuinely still trying to process this news.

Liked him until the details of his “ sleepy cuddles “ stuff came to light . Always wondered if he signed a deal to help bring down the SNP and Sturgeon to stay out of jail in the face of the charges that were brought against him . Conspiracy theories though I know

And probably neither the time nor the place.

Correct, this is what should be remembered on a Hearts fans forum.

Only met him once when his car ran out of petrol. I gave him a lift in my car and got an invite to visit House of Commons. Never went though. That wasn't yesterday!!

All roads lead to Gorgie

He was a great advocate for Scottish independence and a fine politician. He will be remembered for that despite some mistaken choices in the latter half of his life. Rest in peace Alex.

Victorian

People are entitled to their opinions about him.  Being acquitted in court makes him not guilty,  but not immune from opinions.

His ally Joanna Cherry made some direct,  adversarial comments in her initial online response.  She didn't feel the need to censor herself because someone has died.  I hope people wont be bullied and then abused for sharing their opinions.

Giant of a politician and highly intelligent man.  Not a saint.  RIP.

Clear few

A flawed human being as we all are, a Jambo and I think a man of political principles.

I for one will miss his intellect in the field of politics and hope his ambition of an independent Scotland is one day realised.

I can’t see anyone who has his stature to take over the Indy movement . He was it .

He certainly did and used his influence when Heriot Watt threatened our continuation at Riccarton.  A great politician and independence would  be a sideshow if not for his skills. RIP.

Not a fan of his arrogance and politics but it's a bit of a shocker.

Always sad to hear of a jambo passing.

Absolutely gutted.

Big loss to politics.

That's independence well and truly cooked now.

Jamboross

His second spell as leader of SNP began the week before my 16th birthday and I joined the party shortly afterwards. At his peak he was a fantastic politician and hugely influential in shaping my political outlook in my teens and early twenties, I'll remember him for that and the huge sense of optimism he brought to those of us independence minded in the summer of 2014.

Latterly I found him less appealing for various reasons but today isn't the day for delving into that.

RIP Alex.

Former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond has died aged 69. It's understood he collapsed after taking ill.

The Alba Party leader reportedly passed away after giving a speech in North Macedonia.

Salmond led the Scottish Nationalist Party between 1990 and 2000, and then again between 2004 and 2014. In this time he led the country's fight for nationalism with the 'Yes Scotland' campaign.

Grow up.

You’d probably say the same about Thatcher.

I didn’t like him, despised him actually. I won’t shed a tear however folk will and that is fine.

As I said above, condolences to his family who are grieving.

That’s where I’m at.

Met him a couple of times mainly at tynecastle, but also through work when I was in scottish office, absolute gent and he had charisma and presence and maybe wrong to say nowadays but women in his younger days were drawn to him.I took him as I found him, also bought my son a can of juice many moons ago, sons now 30 lol, great sense of humour and loved our great club. I am sure there will now be a pile on by press re the previous allegations made which he was cleared off don't forget, now he has passed.  RIP Alex.

Hope we go for an applause rather than a silence . Be good to give him a proper send off at the club he loved . None of that silence stuff like we had with that unelected royal figurehead a few years ago . Deserves a good rousing clap

Correct.

A silence would be marred.

A man that attempted to destroy our country out of his own hatred. I shan't mourn him.

A man who loved his country and wanted the best for it. Sadly his ambition and vision wasn't shared by the likes of you.

RIP.

Thank you Alex for a period of hope and excitement. Such a shame what became of the movement afterwards.

Yeah the pondlife would be all over it . You can almost smell the boot leather from here

The majority will welcome the chance to cheer for the man who loved and tried to do what was best for the club and country that he loved

That’s exactly how I feel . And I vividly recall the run up to 2014 and its aftermath . It’s never been the same since . In fact is now put to bed as you say

Works both ways tbh.

I  dislike the Royal family and religion but sat in silence for the pope and Queen.

Both "silences" were embarrassing.

This would go the same way.

Arsholes from both sides of the divide can't act with any sense of decorum.

Most football fan bases are the same.
