In this case, potentially not just fixture congestion for others, but major issues for the whole league, given that Dundee and the vermin look likely to go right to the wire in terms of deciding who is in the top 6 and who is in the bottom at the split!

Just another thing (the split and all the nonsense around it) that makes Scottish football look like an amateur organisation.

Aye definitely, but will probably have some knock on for TV games getting decided etc.

Needs to be resolved ASAP.

Another soaking for the pitch this morning and another due overnight tonight. Big decisions to be made I think.

If pitch remains unplayable why not just have a vote to see who goes where.

If that happened, does that mean their game v Rangers which is due for Wednesday would have to be moved back a week or would Dundee have to play two games in three days?

Rangers game would still be Wednesday.

Seems like everyone is unhappy with this proposal but also seems games have to be played by next weekend.

Dundee potentially being forced to move their game to Motherwell this weekend...just give them two losses IMO.

"Pitch Update – 4th April 2024

Dundee Football Club want to respond to media speculation regarding the club being forced to move Saturday’s match against Motherwell away from the Scot Foam Stadium. The club want to clarify the situation regarding this.

As we all know there has been heavy rainfall in the Dundee area since the start of the week. The club have had a full grounds team along with consultants working on the pitch since the postponement of the Rangers match along with all the associated machinery and this will continue right up until Saturday. Rain covers will then be put down covering the whole pitch. The club are doing absolutely everything in its power to get Saturday’s match on and is expecting Saturday’s match to go ahead as planned. The club are in regular discussions with the league but no decision to move the match away from the Scot Foam Stadium has been made. The stories circulating in the media are very much media speculation. The club will provide another update to supporters later on today."

Ironically, only a few years ago folk were moaning about the same thing (and that the pitch needed dug up) AT MOTHERWELL

Since then Motherwell have invested and now have arguably the best pitch in the league.

Thats just mad. I saw the plan is to try again on Sunday if the pitch is ruled out for tomorrow, then go to the Airdrie option, but seriously if the pitch is ruined now, how is it going to be ok one day later. They need to make a decision today, if it needs to be played elsewhere tomorrow then that is what must be done.

And is the pitch going to be fine by Wednesday? Or do they need to play the Rangers game elsewhere?

I dont think you will get a decision that wont have anyone unhappy, so this is where you need leadership to make a decision.

Exactly, clubs can do something about it. The problem is when clubs try to be cheap about it.

Genuine question re: these pitch covers.

Are they inflated like at Wimbledon or test cricket?

(To allow the rain to run off)

If not - surely the rain will just sit on top, and when they try to remove the covers all the water will just spill onto the grass anyway?

Same picture, hope they don't use these steps behind the old shed. Looks like that side of the ground is a health hazard.

Probably used to protect the pitch from the frost, and maybe snow, rather than a sustained downpour of rain.

Dundee v Motherwell: Visitors angered by SPFL's Airdrie closed doors plan

The SPFL's suggestion of playing Motherwell's Scottish Premiership game against Dundee behind closed doors at Airdrie is "nuts", says Fir Park chief executive Brian Caldwell.

The Dens Park pitch will be inspected on Saturday at 11:00 BST after ongoing heavy rain left the game in doubt.

The surface was deemed playable on Thursday and has been protected since by covers hired from Celtic.

But with the SPFL needing to finalise their post-split fixtures, they are eager that the game is played this weekend regardless.

Caldwell says moving the game to Sunday, or even Monday, has been mooted - neither of which appeal to Motherwell.

"We're a spectator sport, we have to look after our own supporters, we have to make sure they're at the game, so our position has been quite clear to the SPFL that this is not our fault," he said.

"This is nothing to do with this club so why should we have the hassle of it all?

"Our position is that we play on Saturday at Dens or we reschedule the game, and if that means that the post-split fixtures are delayed, then so be it because playing behind closed doors is just ridiculous.

"I think if they go down that line and they try and force us into doing that we will just stand firm and not do it. And I think Scottish football will support us with that."

Dundee said on Friday that the city had endured 17mm of rain overnight and that the planned Saturday morning pitch inspection would continue.

Dens Park has already had four matches postponed this season due to a waterlogged pitch.

Dundee are scheduled to host Rangers next Wednesday in a rescheduled fixture, with just two rounds of matches due before the split.

Are we meant to believe that if for some reason the OF game this weekend couldn't go ahead that they would play it behind closed doors at a neutral venue on a Monday? Not a chance in hell.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but whilst the focus is on the game v Motherwell, presumably Dundee's game v The Rangers could find itself in doubt. Imagine ra 'tic's reaction if that were played behind closed doors in Airdrie 48 hours after Dundee have played Motherwell at the same ground and The Rangers spank Dundee.

Postponed games have carried over into the split before.

What's the difference this time ?

Anyway the high winds that are due may dry the pitch out anyway.

I would love to dock Dundee points (ground overall is an absolute and complete shit hole) but screw that if it means the Hobos gain. Personally enjoying Motherwells stance... I'm sure if it we were in same situation as MWell, and said same it, we would be shot down with condemnation and told to stfu... Dundee renting goods from Celtic is another pals act as far as I'm concerned, mind Strachan dual role..... I want chaos.. the lot of them can bolt and finger their holes...  I would also be partial for the game to go ahead tomorrow and become a mud bath for the zombie game.. Bear in mind the walking dead could have played it last mid week, but why not?

And the problem it may cause for the big Sky league decider game.

It is such a tight schedule available for the decider, unexpected bad weather can be a problem.

Solution if the game is postponed for tomorrow……

Rangers play Dundee the day before they play us at Hampden. Millionaire squad. No problem 😉

the issue is dundee could end up in either of the top or bottom 6. previously games would have carried over when those teams knew if they were in the top or bottom 6.
