His first game  at Tynecastle was honking.

Looked like he'd won a prize to play for us.

There's some players you see who just don't look like footballers. They do genuinely look like someone lifted off the street, chucked a kit on and got a run out. Oshaniwa was one of them, Harry McKirdy being another good example

Going back a while but Dennis Wyness was a signing that I thought would be good,

scored a bucket load for Inverness but he never really got going with us

Maurice Johnstone.

Was advancing in years but it was only 2 years after he'd left rangers and he'd done OK with Everton.

I liked Derek Ferguson, never gave the ball away, depends what criteria you are judging players on, this was a good squad of players at the time.

Yip, Osh is the worst I've seen from us.

He came with a pedigree as well.

It's generally regarded his best game was v celtic at Parkhead

He ****ed up when 1 v 1.

Cost us a goal

Got sent off

That was if not his best game, one oof his best games!

Well past his best when he joined us but he hadn't played for a while due to a drugs ban. Also joined a struggling Hearts side.

Some signing though when you look at his career. Numerous trophies with PSG including the Cup Winners Cup. Played for France in the Euro 96 semi-final and scored in the shootout which they lost.

Yeah I'm sure he was a good friend of big Giles Rousset

That and he was banging Class A's at the weekend. Allegedly of course.

Wasn't he sacked after failing a drugs test ?

Derek Ferguson.

I really thought he'd be a superb addition to the team that did so well in 1989/90. The final piece of the jigsaw sort of thing.

A fine player on his day but he had nowhere near the impact I'd hoped for.

TBF to Ferguson after we bought him we resorted to hoofball and big long punts over the midfielders to the strikers. at the time I remember thinking ' why did we pay a club record fee for a good midfielder only to punt the ball over his head?

Tomas Brolin. Must’ve signed him aboot four times over the years, never seen him get on the park once ffs.

I once pulled a Swedish girl at the Edinburgh festival by convincing her I was related to Brolin.  She was in awe.

John Sutton for me.

A player I wanted to see in a Hearts Jersey for years.

He had scored a bucket load of goals for Millwall and Motherwell the season previously.

I was delighted when it was announced we had signed him.

How it turned out to be a major disappointment. Especially that sitter against St.Mirren in the cup final.

Always seemed to dragging an invisible caravan.

Dennis Wyness for me.  He scored for fun at ICT and I thought we had the new Robbo but we were just too much of a step up for him.

Burchill did a good job as a short-term signing tbf. Scored a few goals (one in a 2-0 win at Celtic Park and in the Andy Davis game against Rangers IIRC) and formed a good partnership with Lee Miller.

Ian Baird lol.

Hearts tried to sign Baird about 5 years before he eventually came.  He was decent enough really.  An effective enough lump for the good players to play off.

Good one.

Also Juanjo. He was a decent player but he was built up so much I expected something really special.

It would probably be Jeremy Goss. Was quite excited given Norwich are my English side. Think he was homesick, or his wife was.  I guess he was born in Cyprus, right enough.  😁

Whelan and Damour.  Signed two players who, in the previous two seasons, had each won promotion to the Premier League whilst playing most weeks. Ended up with two players not good enough for any team in the Scottish Premiership, or even the top half of the Championship.

Whelan at least was aging and disinterested; but I'll never understand what the hell happened with Damour. Four year deal as well...

I'd file Craig Wighton under this too. Came as a supposed wonderkid, did nothing then pissed off and hasn't fulfilled anything like his potential. Weird one all round.

Did Derek Ferguson not lose his young daughter not long after he signed for us or is my memory playing tricks on me? If it was the case I could see why his heart would not be in it (football in general).

As has been said, Juanma, Tzolis and that "world cup star" :what:

We have signed some donkeys over the years...and cart horses!

EDIT: was the culture around Cathro and Levein that decent players (of the past) could turn up here, get a wedge, not try a leg, top up their pensions, and ease into retirement? Felt like it.

Quality wise maybe one of the best players we've ever had. Just a shame we never got to see it. Couldn't believe it when we signed him.

Me too, honestly thought it was an absolute coup getting him and thought he’d be a stand out.

Esmael Goncalves

Goncalves was decent, but I really thought he would be a big star for us.

The first two names that sprung to my mind were Sutton and Sammon as I genuinely thought they would be excellent - shows what I know (the same as those who scouted/signed them…Sweet feck all lol)!!

Others, Goncalves (not Esmael) looked immense until that injury in a semi-final at Hampdump (I think that’s where it was - can’t mind and I was there….could have been the pumping off the Huns one)? Joel Pieria simply as I played football manager back in the day and he was a shit hot keeper and came from Man Utd. Snodgrass/Whelan too I guess due to their level and experience but nope turned out Colin Nish!!

Near the end of his Hearts days.

Very sad.

Good footballer, I didn't suggest otherwise, but I'd hoped for a wee bit more.

Double whammy flashback.

Penalty up with 2 to go.  Kingsley taking pen #4 with no run up.  Time for the last one.  Who is it?  Wighton.

Juanma was decent.

1 goal every 3 games for a player new to the Scottish game is fine for his first season.

Chased out by Robbie so he could sign Sammon. :jj_facepalm:

Aidy White, really thought we'd done well to pick him up after seeing him be a really good player for leeds and had high hopes of a Craig Gordon esq renaissance after being out injured for so long, sadly he never managed to get anywhere near back to full fitness

So many over the years that have been mentioned. Other notable ones go to:

Kevin Tawddle

Leigh Jenkinson

Craig Nelson - I'm sure he was capped at Scotland B level and I thought he would be great but he was another that was hopeless.

Colin Cramb - I mind him missing a near open goal on his debut at home against someone.

Demetri Mitchell the 2nd time round.

Also, having researched the signing of Tagawa I was very excited with the signing, still hoping he comes good but been very underwhelming so far.

Saw Jim Weir behind the bar in the King James pub in Perth over Christmas time, him and his missus run the place.
