Signings that you had high hopes for

We're all aware that we've had some shocking signings over the years.

Are there any players in particular that you had high hopes for but have been a damp squib??

Personally, I thought Bobby Burns would have gone on to be a solid player for us. Nothing other than a get feeling at the time but he just never looked anywhere near our level.

Vanecek must be the uptime in recent times.

Hyped up as the next coming of Jesus, paraglided in using his massive shorts, and was punted shortly after.

An all round weird one.

Oshaniwa, was quite excited about him but then quickly realised he was brutal 😄

Also, Joel Pereira, purely down to the fact that he came from Man Utd and was talked up by De Gea.

Genuinely thought Kuol was going to tear this league to shreds.

Quickly learned that pace isn’t everything

This guy. Looked a beast of a striker on YouTube. In real life, looked like Arkadiuz Klimek with a hangover and ran like he had chronic hemorrhoids.

And this guy. Looked like an exchange student who was up for a game of 5s. Absolutely no defensive ability of any sort.

Woodburn. I was in genuine disbelief we managed to get him up here.

The young Welsh guy from Liverpool too. He just didn't seem interested. Clearly he had some talent. He just thought we were beneath him.

I wouldn't say he was uninterested to be honest.

He was always fully apart of goal cele's and was very popular in the dressing room. Personally think Neilson had no idea how to utilize him.

I just remember seeing him pulling out of tackles and losing the ball, looking raging at himself and sauntering back to his own half in despair. He never often looked happy to me.

He was tiny and slow, what did you see in him or think he would play?

I had a feeling - based on nothing at all - that Lee Johnson would be a good player for us. To be fair, he wasn’t given much of a chance.

Gordan Petric.

I thought he was dismal for the Huns and a cast iron guarantee that he'd stink for us too. Still cannot believe JJ paid cash for him.

There was still that cache of a well known OF player with lots of European experience.  We did well out of Stephane Mahe,  not so well out of Petric.

He's more of an ideas man.

McEneff never got the chances he should have.

He was so bad though. He was one of the guys when he lined up against us, I always thought we had a chance of getting something.

One of our worst signings of all time. Entirely predictable too.

Ludek Straceny was another who came in with decent pedigree but was abysmal.

suppose some leeway has to be given as we were an absolute basket case at the time

Watched him a lot from youth levels and always thought he was 1 step ahead of those around him. Pity.

Having watched Pereira's warm up prior to his debut at Motherwell, I had serious concerns. He seemed genuinely surprised/caught out by the pace the balls coming towards him during the normal warm up with the goalie coach. Even sent a message to my mates at the time about how poor he looked. Never a goalie in a million years. Got to be the worst I have ever seen in a Hearts top

Goncalves was decent, but I really thought he would be a big star for us.

Ooft.

Ludek Straceny.  I think he was an international and had scored a winner vs Deidco in Europe.

Remember his debut?

Malaury Martin is a strange one. MacPhee continues to dig out a very good career as a set piece specialist, but yet managed to point us in the direction of a rotten one

Fernando screpis, Argentinian we seemed to work hard to get in, played maybe once and then disappeared

Biggest one for me is Glenn Whelan. Should have been one of the best midfielders in the league, couldn't be arsed.

I'll be in the minority that I think Vanecek could have been decent but CL hung him out to dry (probably in retaliation to him turning up overweight).

Ricardas Beniusis.

Scored a rake for Kaunas.  The belief was that a decent finisher would still transfer well enough into a better league.
