Malinga the Swinga
Good to see Liverpool and their fans desperately trying to absolve themselves of any blame for the fiasco at ground. At least no one was seriously injured, or worse, this time, so thankful that the French police did their job. No stadium to blame this time, no gates opened for them this time. It can't be coincidence that these events happen when Liverpool are playing.

Ex member of the SaS
Never having bought a fake ticket but why would you wait until KO to try and get in? Surely at such a huge game you would endeavor to get to your seat early to soak in the atmosphere. That to me looks like you knew it was fake and tried to get in when there was a rush and ticket inspection would be lax. Strange the Real fans didn't have the same problem and after Hilsbourgh you would think English fans would be better behaved. In any event they won't take responsibility and try to blame others. As for the game I thought Liverpool played fairly well but when they got to the edge of the box ran out of options, no one making runs down the wing or into the box. Only one team " scored" twice, one knocked off after a very long VaR session so I would say the best team won. ( scoring goals wins games not pretty passing football. )

And we have the assurance of Andrew Robertson that one of his mates was told that the genuine ticket AR gave him was as a fake. Easy to automatically blame Liverpool fans due to their past record, but after watching this shambles serious questions need to be asked! Firstly was the security arrangements the same for Real fans at their end of the ground ie numerous security checks, hounded into a restricted compound and only two turnstiles open for 20,000 fans? SectionDJambo
Clearly, a lot went wrong outside the stadium that only an absolutely independent enquiry would be able to break down facts from. It seems that a fair number of Liverpool fans turned up either without tickets or with fake tickets. We know that Celtic fans have rolled up at Tynecastle with cloned tickets, so let's not assume that those with fake tickets yesterday were all unaware that they were fake. Those involved in this type of practice have no concerns about the dangers that brings to other people. The local authorities would have had to check validity of tickets well away from the stadium, but the manner in which they carried that out was outrageously dangerous, inept and provocative. They also seem to have had a flawed checking system which identified some genuine tickets as fake. Then for turnstiles within the secure area to remain closed for so long beggars belief. This happened at a modern, built for purpose stadium, which should be laid out and organised for any big match. Any excuse about a lack of security due to the late switch of venue is lame. However, remember that only last year, a similar carry on happened at Wembley where some English fans forced their way into another modern, purpose built stadium. It doesn't look good that its happened again involving English fans. The real shame is that, once again, innocent fans have suffered at the hands of, what looks like, a violent, indiscriminate Police response to a shambolic situation they could not avoid being caught up in. Mikey1874
The Heysel disaster started from people without tickets breaking into the stadium. I'd guess the authorities here took the wrong attitude. Rather than just dealing with fake tickets they locked the whole thing down. They had a preconceived idea Liverpool fans were trouble. It makes no sense when that stadium holds big events perfectly and Madrid fans seemed to get in easily.

It must still be confusing trying to play with Diaz, Mané, Salah then suddenly it's Jota, Mané, Salah then maybe Jota, Firmino, Salah. And somehow the players aren't playing the ball properly in front and wide areas under pressure. Klopp explained that very well after game. Percival King
There's an obvious desire to understand what happened outside the ground yesterday, what went wrong and what party, or parties, were to blame but, for me, it's much more important to get the truth in a week or a month than let an inaccurate version of events gain traction immediately. Hillsborough (eventually) taught many lessons, one of which was the misinformation, lies, cover-ups and misreporting that happens immediately after things go wrong and the damage that can do to revealing the truth. WheatfieldWarrior
I think the ticketing issue is one thing, but it looks like the Police plan was set up for a French international game rather than the stadium acting as a neutral venue. that would explain the one-sided problems assuming Madrid had the home end. Liverpool presumably got the away end, with fans being funneled through a process that was designed to deal with 5k fans at most.

There definitely was a major impact on the way the police reacted by the sudden appearance of local yobs at the stadium. Big events like this will attract trouble makers in any big city. Local police knowledge and intelligence usually can minimise this but the French authorities just started lobbing gas and sprays around anyone to combat it. Unacceptable, but nothing will be done about it. I feel sorry for fans who just wanted to go and see their team play in a big game, only to get involved in shenanigans which seem to have been preventable with better planning and less pre conceived notions from the French police about English football fans. A Sky reporter has just said that the Madrid fans had problems with the policing and organisation as well, though not with anything like the outcome Liverpool fans suffered.
