I think we need to stick to the 3 at the back, but our recent signing kind of suggests 2 up top might be worth considering. Think we should keep with a 343 and assess at half time if a change is needed and try 352 with Simms and another, i.e Woodburn or Boyce.

Gordon

Moore Souttar Kingsley

Atkinson Beni Haring Halliday

McKay Simms GMS

Alternatively,

Gordon

Moore Souttar Kingsley

Atkinson Beni Haring Cochrane

McKay

Simms Boyce/Woodburn

Having Woodburn/Boyce playing off Simms could be dangerous and he's a bit of a wildcard at the moment I think, so should be able to make a good impact on teams as they're figuring him out.

Good chance to bounce back.

Yes, some folks had a bad night last night but this is Motherwell, not Celtic. That team should be enough to get a 2-0.

(Obviously start Halkett if fit.)

no keeper , i admire your optimism

Gordon on as a positionless player. Box to box keeper.

I understand the frustration with Boyce, his all round game was poor this evening. But yet again, he scored. One goal off top goalscorer in the league. We've often over the years been desperate for someone to stick the ball in the net and Boyce does that. If he was great at all the rest of it too (which he sometimes is to be fair to him), he wouldn't be at Hearts. I think as long as he's scoring he needs to play, the Simms lad looked decent and will definitely add something, but I think we would miss Boyce's goals without him in the team.

Agreed. Keep Boyce starting but try him with Simms, who seemed a handful.

That really looks like some team.  I want to see them play like celtic did in the first half.  First to every ball, harass them when they have possession.  That's what we did to them in the 2nd half and they became as error ridden as we were in the first.

I'm sure we'll have a very good crowd again with people anxious to see Beni, Sibbick and Simms in particular.

Looking forward to it as per.

Boyce has to start. The Motherwell defenders didn’t give a us sniff when we played Ginnely through the middle - we really lacked any physicality up top.

I think we'll see Baningime on in the second half.

We usually operate limited game time for players returning from injury, something like 30,45,70,90 if I recall.

Beni played the last 30 against Celtic last night - so 45 against Motherwell.

HMFC THE TEAM FOR ME

                     Gordon

      Sibbick.  Souttar.  Kingsley.
  Atkinson.   Haring.  Beni. Halliday.
                     Woodburn

              Simms.     Henderson

For me this team fits bets against a Motherwell side Henderson deserves a chance with support of Simms with his physicality. Wouldn’t risk anyone slightly at risk going into a derby no chance. More than enough quality to dispatch a low confidence Motherwell team.

In what way does Henderson deserve his chance ahead of Boyce? And no McKay either?

well McKay clearly clutching his groin , wouldn’t risk him before a derby. And Boyce can be rested also for the derby.

Plus with this team if we are getting over run in midfield an switch to back 4 and put sibbick in midfield as he's pretty good there from what we've seen too, without having to make a sub. Think this is the team the robman will put out hope anyway

Simms got boyce that goal.with his movement dragging defenders away. That's after never having a training session together. Think they could be great together and should stick with 2 up top from now on when we can

3-2-3-2

Assuming Smith & Halkett injured, probably:

Gordon

Souttar - Sibbick - Kingsley

Atkinson - Cochrane

Beni - McKay - Haring

Boyce - Simms

However, I'd start with a scouse attack and play Woodburn for Boyce as need more movement up top.

No dot  count for this ?

Anyway I reckon we will collect 3 points with this one and big Simms will score his first for the Famous. Setting us up for the Derby. 🇱🇻👊

We have been like that in many of the games.

Unfortunately, Celtic are better so they do it to us.

2nd half is how celtic play, thier intensity and pace drops as they can't maintain their 1st half pace up.

Celtic have played this way all season.

No idea why the pattern of the game suprised so many on here.

We might not throw Sibbick in from the start and I suspect Souttar will be away, in which case:

Gordon

Moore

Smith

Kingsley

Atkinson

Beni

Haring

Cochrane

McKay (or Woodburn if McKay's groin isn't 100%)

Boyce

Simms

Stick with the wing backs but put Simms up top with Boyce. Boyce will be better with help up there. McKay in the floating role.

I find the anti Boyce sentiment on here quite baffling. He's a striker. He scores goals (when was the last time we had a striker in the top league that did that?) OK he has weaknesses but if he didn't he would be playing in the EPL. He missed a penalty. That's hardly a sacking offence!

I think its crazy talk also.

There are 9 other teams in our league who would jump at a chance to snap him up.

Assuming Smith, Halkett & McKay are all out and that Moore and Woodburn are fit.

                                                        Gordon

                                   Moore          Souttar        Kingsley

              Atkinson                          Haring                          Halliday

                                         Beni

                                                      Woodburn/McEneff

                                   Simms                                Boyce

Subs:  Stewart, Sibbick, Cochrane, Devlin, Woodburn/McEneff, Gino, GMS, Henderson, Pollock

We got overwhelmed by Motherwell at Fir Park. Worst performance of the season for us. We need to win the midfield so would not be surprised to see three in there. Despite being a "Halliday hater" I accept he deserves to start:-

Gordon

Smith Moore Kingsley

Atkinson Beni Haring Devlin Halliday

Simms Boyce

5-2-1-2/5-2-3

RWB - Natty

RCB - Sibbick

CB - Souttar (or Moore if he's fit & Souttar's away)

LCB - Kingsley

LWB - Cochrane

CM - Beni

CM - Haring/Devlin

CAM/LF - McKay (Or McEneff if not fit)

ST/RF - Simms

ST - Boyce

Hopefully Smith/Moore/Woodburn/McKay can all at least make the bench. Wouldn't risk Halkett even if it's not as bad as feared.

I don’t fancy resting anyone for this - for our league position you could argue it’s more important than the derby (obviously isn’t in reality but you get what I mean)

We win this and I think they fall away.

(excuse the random in attacking mid. No McKay for some reason on that thing)

I just think McKay would be needed more in the derby so would rest him to give him time to rest on the hope we don’t injure him after he was obviously feeling pain against Celtic

If we are a few goals up, take him off then.

Not sure Sibbick is suited to playing in the middle of a back 3 - we really miss Halkett’s physicality when he’s not there

Lafferty and Isma.  I think Isma’s strike rate was as good if not better than Lafferty’s.  Both playing in much worse Hearts sides than this one.

Boyce has missed 3 penalties this season and lacks composure in front of goal.  Not a sackable offence but certainly shouldn’t take another penalty (even the ones he scores are unconvincing) and with all the options we have up front now we should be rotating and he should be on the bench some weeks.  Our best performance of the season was one he didn’t play in and involved more mobile, pacy players up front.

Likewise against St Johnstone last week - Mackay’s brilliance combined with Ginnelly’s pace.  I’m not advocating that Ginnelly deserves to start every week but he certainly deserves more game time and would be good to see what he can do through the middle maybe playing off Simms.  Henderson also needs to get a chance. For the first time in years we have options.
