While this could potentially end the war I would bet there's a lot of apprehension going on in western and other governments right now. A complete collapse is not what we wanted. And it were to be a coup something like Prigozhin is also not what we wanted.

This war has been a shit show with one twist after another from day one, that pattern is continuing.

Dirty Deeds

Fastest route to Moscow is via the toll road but that'll cost a few bob for all those tanks and troop carriers

This is the worry.

I don’t think it’s a worry at all really. The only thing that Putin has proven is that Russia has no conventional threat whatsoever . In open conflict with NATO with all assets brought to the front they wouldn’t last a week.

There is no chance they take it further that that imo.  Becuase they know they would be absolutely ****ed

Is this a chance for Ukraine to make a big push or are they better sticking with relatively careful tactics?

Prigozhin said the members of his Wagner forces, who have launched an armed rebellion, were “ready to die”, in a message posted to Telegram on Saturday morning.

In a string of audio messages, the leader of the mercenary group vowed to topple Russia’s military leadership.

“All of us are ready to die. All 25,000, and then another 25,000,” he said. “We are dying for the Russian people.”

He also said: “We are saving Russia.”

Lots, it's not as insulated as Putin would like it to be.

Biggest piece of banter from all this is that Russian frontlines are now almost completely cut off from resupply.

Rumour is that British intelligence have advised the Ukrainians not to advance yet. Some channels are saying they're already on the outskirts of Bakhmut though.

Intercepted comms from the 205th motor brigade say they're thinking of siding with Wagner.

This is a once in a lifetime event.

I sadly had that as a message alert about 10 years ago on an old mobile phone. 😂

Used to get a laugh when it went off whilst in company.

It is possible the main Wagner actions basically assist Ukraine.

The main risk to Putin by far remains a defeat by Ukraine.

Some set of baws on the Wagner boy.

People saying Friday night is always the best time in Russia to mount an attack. Because most people are blind drunk. Including the armed forces and especially in Moscow.

My opinion is they should very aggressively target logistical hubs and key cities. Russian troops are not in a good position at all now. An all out wide offensive is a waste of resources and manpower.

They're already pushing towards Bakhmut, it's not unrealistic they could take Mariupol and push right up to the crossing with Crimea.

Probably a stupid idea to do it so soon. This is the land of subterfuge, and it could easily turn out to be... well, anything!

Let them bash on with it for a while, and see where it goes.

If the Ukraine army could push forward and reclaim a major city like Mariupol. That would put almost insurmountable pressure on Putin.

Obviously it isn't going to be simple or easy but there is a chance to create a snowball effect from this.

Knowing Russia, things like this are all about momentum. Say Wagner is crushed, next thing to happen is trials and executions for anyone deemed disloyal or not loyal enough during the coup. The fact they're even talking about it means at the end they'll be put in prison or a ditch.

Commenting on Putin’s televised address, Yevgeny Prigozhin in an audio note said the president “was deeply mistaken” in calling him a traitor.

“No one is going to turn themselves in at the request of the president … We don’t want the country to continue to live in corruption and lies,” he added.

“We are patriots, and those who are against us are the ones who gathered around the *******s,” Prigozhin said.

The audio message marks the first time that Prigozhin has directly spoken out against the Russian president.

The former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev on Saturday called on Russians to rally around Putin.

On the face of it this looks almost suicidal for Prigozhin, unless he actually does have some sort of backing.

I'd imagine Prigozhin knows more about the internal security situation in Russia, and his chances of success, than any of us on here.

Let's hope it's not a put up job between Putin and Wagner Group but anything is possible in Russia - Ukraine will proceed with caution I would think

Wagner has shot down 4-5 helicopters and a transport plane, there's videos of Wagner in firefights with interior troops, looks to be very real

Russia coup: There aren't enough troops inside Russia to protect the Kremlin against Prigozhin

"There are actually very few Russian troops in the interior of the country." Russia has 'overextended itself' in Ukraine to the point that they cannot maintain a defensive perimeter, says Gabriel Gavin.

That's what I was thinking, probably not as simple as that. Will just have to wait and see how it pans out.

Maybe Ukraine forces are just lying back enjoying the sun before walking into Crimea. I sure hope so

Ukraine needs to continue its probing along the front lines, but also look to use the events in Russia to mount an information campaign to persuade the Russians at the front to lay down their arms, or to retreat to their motherland and sort out their own civil war.

Russia latest: Putin's soldiers might 'immediately surrender to Prigozhin' | Bill Browder

"Prigozhin has a lot of credibility of being brutal and perhaps even more brutal than Putin." Bill Browder says Russian forces may 'immediately surrender' to Prigozhin, handing him the keys to Moscow.

Russian army troops and commanders waving through Wagner seems like a fairly poor outlook for Putin.

:)

It's all about momentum now. The ideal situation for Prigozhin would be one or two military/political leaders coming out not necessarily in support for him but for an investigation into the realities of the "special military operation". If he doesn't get those, and/or a groundswell of Russian public support (which is unlikely as most folk know the repercussions of speaking out against the régime), his coup will amount to nothing.

First thing that went through my mind too.

Stage the whole thing to either lull Ukraine into launching a major offensive or more bizarrely it's an out for Putin by making himself out to be a moderate versus the absolute headbanger from the Wagner Group.

Either that or Prigozhin is really going to take him out 🤷‍♂️

Is this the turning point? Is there a genuine possibility of a coup?

Well aye. Prigozhin will have support of other Oligarchs and their PMC's as well as apparently the GRU which commands Intelligence & Special Forces.
