They might pick a defender for height at set pieces, they may pick players based on who the referee is and if they have a tendency to book too much, they may pick players based on the weather conditions. All these considerations come into play. The crowd reaction to Souttar was widely expected, so was known. Therefore, playing him - knowing how the fans would react and therefore may affect the atmosphere of the game and maybe even team performance - is the manager’s fault. Not the fans.
