It's a hypothetical I know but I do feel we're either not getting the work rate we should be out of Boyce (be that due to his form or the way we're playing by isolating him etc) or his somewhat padded stats from penalties is giving us rose tinted glasses. We are most definitely getting ‘work rate’ out of Boyce. However we play him as a ‘false 9’ a lot of the time, rather than an orthodox penalty box striker. If Gnando plays the system needs altered and frankly we don’t always reset to play to his strengths which would be crosses of course so we’ve left Gnando trying to play the same role as Boyce which isn’t going to work. You can see why Gnando might be frustrated and we’ll probably never know if he is the real deal because of the way we’re playing and our preferred set up. My gut says he isn’t good enough to score goals at this level but maybe we’re not giving him a real chance by not setting up the way that would probably suit him better. I also thinks he lacks a bit of heart and effort. He could dig in a bit harder and give a bit more when he gets the chance if you ask me but that’s just my opinion. Rocky jamboa
I thought gnando did well when he came on on Saturday, whereas I didn't think Boyce contributed much other than his goal. Gnando definitely a good option off the bench to either replace Boyce, or bring on alongside Boyce if we're chasing a goal. However, Boyce by far the better finisher and can get goals out of nothing, which we've seen already this season.

The Apprentice
In fairness to Robbie and the coaching staff, Gnanduillet did nowhere near enough against Ross County last week to merit a start against Livi, especially with his general play. Didn't hold the ball up or compete well enough with the County centre-backs but in saying that the keeper made a couple of good saves from him. If they go in its likely a different story. Happy enough with him as an option for us but Boyce is clearly the main man for now.

It's his hold-up play, movement, and clever touch into space that pulls the defence off balance, sets up McKay for the cross, and leaves Cochrane alone at the back post. I think you can tell why he has been playing in the English lower leagues, that is his level. To me he isn't the person to hold down the number 9 spot. But I do think Boyce needs another man up beside him to increase the number of options in the box, to keep defenders busy and in the same token create more scoring opportunities. In addition I don't think we will change the delvery types into the box, we seem to look to keep it on the ground. And despite all he, Gnanduillet, said prior to the game last season versus Brora, i.e. that to get the best out of him delivery had to be in the air, he rarely wins the ball in the air for such a tall player. It might be a position that Woodburn could fill, i.e. play up near Boyce, as both are better when delivery is on the ground. Players playing at other clubs we could look at, I'm not honestly sure or not even sure if a potential option is already under the radar of Joe Savage. But to me if we are to score goals more regularly Boyce needs to be in or around the box at all times, not dropping back to win headers when Craig clears the ball long or if it is played in short from midfield. Inevitably when that happens there is no one further forward to play the ball onto. But it is all down to opinion, when Tynecastle is full there will be multiple different takes on what everyone sees. I think this squad is as good as we have had since 2005/06 However, the squad has been built around a certain style of play and ‘playing for seconds’ isn’t that style. It is clear that AG was brought in just in case we needed during a game to start ‘playing for seconds’ and you can see it when he is on the pitch when CBs look up and see a 6’6” target, they are more likely to try and hit that target. I question his attitude and I think he’d be a better player if he had the attitude of a Boyce or a Devlin. I also think we’ve improved the squad so much in one window that he’s now out of his depth here. If you have a player in the first team squad that isn’t good enough, he goes, and you get someone else. Its as simple as that. It’s what squad development is all about, you identify areas you are weak in and you improve them. Personally I think we should have signed another striker in the summer, one that fitted in to our style of play a bit more. We don’t play long ball. We don’t hang crosses up for a big man. No one hates the guy or even dislikes him. 👍🇱🇻
