Boof
What actually happened on 2 June 1952 to make this the 70th anniversary? Auld Geordie popped his solid gold, diamond-encrusted clogs on 6 Feb 1952. Betty I donned the shiny hat on 2 June 1953. Is 2 June her accession date? Does that mean we actually DID manage to have a glorious monarch-free period from 6/2/52 - 2/6/52? The popularity of the royals is deteriorating quickly so what better way to boost their popularity than to wave their wealth, power and privilege in us poor peoples faces! the narrative seems to be all about the passing on of the royal torch to the big ear twat and the bald cheat William. There are other reasons why a constitutional monarchy is a good-enough way to run a country. And it seems to work. Take a look at the countries with the highest ‘Human Development Index’. You’ll find constitutional monarchies over-represented. As I seem to keep on saying, I don’t have the jubilee tea cups and coronation tea-towels, I’m not going to a jubilee party. But I’m in my late 50s now and there has been a bit of constancy throughout my life which, as pathetic as it sounds, is …. good. Works for me.
