It's all speculation, suggestions, gossip, hear-say. Nobody knows. It's just chatter. Everyone knows that. There's no need to be wide about it and take the piss out of everyone with that sort of high-and-mighty attitude.

This, along with "oh so you know him personally do you?" Are the two worst.

Okay, cheers for the clarification. I’ve never said your 2nd paragraph, so not sure what that’s about. But all I did was look at the way the thread has went in the last few hours and cracked a wee joke. Some found it funny, you didn’t, and it’s all good either way, was just clarifying.

Wasn’t anything high and mighty about it though by the way. I’m not looking down on anyone, for the record.

Ron Gordon admits Hibs remain in a ‘difficult’ financial position but a Scottish Cup win would offer more scope for summer spending.

The Hibees face St Johnstone at Hampden on Saturday and could lift the famous old trophy for the second time in five years.

An added benefit would see Jack Ross’ side go into the play-off round for the Europa League, and even if they were to lose that, they could go straight into the group stages of the Europa Conference League.

After having to cut costs over the last year due to the impact of Covid on Scottish football, Gordon admits things are tight, but success on the pitch will lead to recovery off it.

“From a financial perspective, we took a big haircut. One of the great things in my investment in Hibs was that I was able to eliminate the debt and infuse some cash into the club and put it into a position where it was sitting pretty, let’s say.

“A year-and-a-half later, we’re bleeding our cash and we’re in a difficult position. But despite that we’ve done some great things. We’ve managed to re-loan our cash, we’ve got some great supporters and the season ticket holders supported the club. Thanks to them we’ve been able to perform as we have.

“The financial thing was the biggest hit and unfortunately then we had to downsize the entire club. Things like hospitality, game day activities, the academy and things like that were shut down.

“For two reasons; one, from a public health perspective we needed to do that and two, of course we needed to cut costs. Our focus was just the first team and what we needed to do to put together the best infrastructure to support the first team.

“That’s really what we’ve done and I think it’s paid off. In a way, the focus on the first team has helped because there hasn’t been any distractions about development, the academy and infrastructure and things like that.”

Lifting silverware on Saturday would go a long way to vincidcating that approach, and it could allo Hibs to continue strengthening at first team level to maintain the standards they’ve set this season.

138212091369

Gordon told the Que Golazo Podcast: “If we win then the club will be in a stronger position to make some investments. We’ll be in Europe and I want us to go as deep as we can.

“In the past, the club has had a reputation for selling players very quickly and getting cash in the door. I’m of a different opinion in that I think we have to build a competitive team. There will be times when we have to sell, no doubt. That’s part of the business of football.

“But ultimately my number one goal is to compete. You have to find balance. The club’s needs and sometimes the players. For them, the opportunity to go and play in the Premier League or Championship in England is an opportunity to make more money. You have a career of ten, 15 years as a football player and we want to make sure our guys have the chance to maximise that opportunity.”

Not relevant to this thread but wanted to point out that the winner of Scottish cup isn't guaranteed European footie next year, uefa changed it a few days ago.

I know it was just a bit of sarcasm and it's easy for things to be misconstrued online, but it appeared very condescending. Appreciate that's probably not what you meant, but it just got my back up a bit because I'm sick of people coming on this thread saying how pish it is and how stupid it is. If you don't like it, go elsewhere (that's not aimed directly at you) - lots of us clearly do like discussing this sort of thing so just live and let live and leave us to it.

All good ✌🏻️

As I’ve mentioned previously the transfer threads are one of (if not the) main reasons I even come on this board. For what it’s worth I’ve not had an issue with your postings, and I don’t have an issue with speculation. I did have an issue yesterday with just random left field names getting banded about at a sporadic rate by some. The thread started to seem like it was being spammed rather than just speculation. The Hastie stuff today, like who he follows on Twitter etc, that’s got a nugget of something about it so is all good. It’s interesting to talk about. But my last joke was not intended to be condescending, just thought the juxtaposition of the £20 million investment chat against who we were legitimately all talking about signing and how was quite funny.

A bit too many random names and YouTube videos getting flung around yesterday I agree. Even I lost interest. But still, it's all in keeping with the point of this thread so 🤷🏻

I've suggested quite a few myself, but not just at random - there's been a reason for all of mine, and I've tried to stick to the requirements that Neilson mentioned.

Anyways... All good mate. Apologies for the over reaction ✌🏻️

Unless there is some unexpected investment in the playing budget it will be out of contract or perhaps small fees paid

In March we were told by the club to anticipate a tough couple of years due to Covid (and it's financial impact) and nothing has changed since then

We won't be alone in this approach

Tbf, I'd imagine that if someone did post a name that they were told Hearts were interested in, they'd probably get dugs abuse for it as well😂.   Unless the story was already in the press.  But that wouldn't be sharing a snippet, that would just be recycling what the papers say.   I quite like to read people's suggestions for players.  👍

Never mind they have uber captain Broonaldo and the dodgy England coach that narrowly missed jail to keep them going with the rest of dads army.

Hastie would be good, but only if permanent. Laddie has potential but so far hasn’t really realised it yet. Don’t see any point loaning young players from rangers unless it’s one of those loan to buy type deals where it’s effectively just to give them a season where he won’t line up against them.

I can see Hibs doing a Dundee United, have success with young talent, then go over the top with it and panicking when it doesn't work but stuck with too many players.
