You’ve got to be a special kind of arsehole to punch another rider, especially in these conditions of speed and rider numbers.

Thrown off the race.

Should also be prosecuted. That could have caused a horrible crash.

Pog skooshing the 1st stage of the Tour of Slovenia.

Ah!  The halcyon days when you were that man.  Amongst others.

You know you're bored when you have to read the cycling thread, Morgan.

Have you not got some sort of airfix model you could be building?

You just have no idea, do you?

Cavendish wins the UK road championships. Shame he’s looking very unlikely to go to the TdF.

Lots of national championships on this week.

TdF next friday!

Just plain oot.

I wonder if any bookies will give you a market on Geraint Thomas falling off his bike at any stage of the Tour?

Absolute chaos and carnage.

First week is always full of crashes.

A messy last few km today but happy that Jakobsen got the stage after all the problems he’s had.
And a couple of things. I just can’t take to Van Aert somehow. Supremely talented rider but there’s something about him.
Also despite following pro cycling for years I discovered today that there are no rider number that end in a 0 in the TdF.

I’d just never realised. Every team must be assigned a block of numbers with the first rider having the 1 at the end of their number and 8 riders per team so there won’t be any numbers ending in 9 either.

And Van Aert hits the deck today. Seems ok though he has been having a good feel of his left arm and shoulder.

Van Aert very, very nearly down again after his team car slammed on the brakes.

I'm pretty sure he clipped the wing mirror as he bumped his way past.

This is absolute carnage. Top quality riders getting popped out all over the place.

Flat out is the only way to ride them. The theory being you skip over the top of them.
In my experience it works but it can be a bit sketchy to say the least.

That stage was every bit as good as imagined.

Great stuff.

So it turns out Roglic dislocated his shoulder when he crashed today so just calmly popped it back in himself. I’ve done that before and let me assure you it’s more than a little painful.

Glad that was raw sound footage and not over a soundtrack.

There’s a great clip on YouTube of the last few km leading to the finish line through a busy town. Shocking how much shouting and direct hands on contact between riders there is. And mildly terrifying. I don’t think people who don’t either regularly watch cycling or ride a bike realise the skill in riding that close at full tilt.

Just the 220km today.

Nice wee jaunt through the countryside.

And there's the winner right there. He's not letting go of the yellow jersey now.

Absolute animal of a man.

Some stage that, and some performance.

Pog on fire.

Nice wee day off for the GC guys tomorrow, nothing much in the stage at all.

A rolling recovery day.

Turned out to be a good stage. Delighted for Bob Jungels.

I meant Saturday's stage was easy(ish)

Sunday was barry, the first proper mountain stage and it was great.

Pinot heartbreak once again.

Couldn't begrudge Jungels the win.
