Well that was every bit as crazy and unpredictable as the entire Tour.

Great stuff.

Loving all the post-stage interviews with the riders.

The only shame was they kept Van Aert back for the over the line photo opportunity with the rest of the team.

Iris is some size of a girl!

She's only 5'8"

The lassie next to her was just tiny.

Some horrific crashes in today's stage.

I didn’t realise Manon Lloyd was so wee, she’s an ex track cyclist and they don’t tend to be tiny.

Rider who came steaming in late had been chasing to get back on, had pulled out from behind a car and hit the roadblock of downed riders at full tilt.

Nasty.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rider arriving at an accident with such a speed difference. Bloody horrible to watch.

She still might, she's been there or thereabouts in the first two days even though she's been unable to eat and anything she does eat ends up in a ditch at the side of the road.

Plenty time left to make an impact on this race.

I really thought Mavi Garcia was going to get a bad one today when she was clipped by the team car. If the driver hadn’t had his wits about him and jumped on the brakes they would have been over the top of her. Scary crash.

She had nae luck at all. So many mechanicals all day.

The car was way, way too close and it was their fault that she clipped it as she drifted across the gravel.

Mind you, it was a little tiny bit of karma as she did seem to have great trouble in getting bidons from the car all day long too, she must have been towed for about half the stage.

Shame for Annameik Van Vleuten, desperate to win the tour and then getting ill for the first two days.

Absolute ****ing bona fide legend!

Surprising nobody, Geraint Thomas fell off his bike at the Commonwealth Games time trial.

:gok:

Still recovered to win bronze though.

  • 2 weeks later...

Egan Bernal is back racing, 8 months after nearly killing himself by riding into the back of a parked bus on a training camp.

He's lining up for the Tour of Denmark, starting tomorrow.

La Vuelta starts on sunday.

And Fabio Jacobsen won the European Championship Road race which is brilliant after all he’s been though.

Dumoulin had been struggling to find form for ages and it's been clear for some time that his head and heart were no longer in the game.

Retiring now is the right move and arguably a bit late.

Wish him nothing but the best for the future. He was superb on his day.

Nairo Quintana DQd from this year's Tour for a positive Tramadol result

A bit of a strange one. It appears it is banned as it causes drowsiness and loss of attention so could make a rider unsafe on the road. The team medics should have known not to use it as a painkiller though if it is on the list.

TTT is often a good spectacle to watch and seen even the best fall apart as often they have one or two TT specialists and the remainder can’t keep the pace.

Missed TTT at the tour the last few years.

Also keen to see some of Den Bosch on telly tomorrow. Spent some time there as a teenager.

TTT are far better viewing than individual TT.

Especially as a way to kick off a Grand Tour.

Watching 180 riders do an individual TT one after the other for hours on end is always piss boring.

Looks like this Grand Tour will be decided by Covid rather than Cycling.

Bunches of riders falling out of the race with the virus every day at the moment.

Pleased to see Carapaz win. I’m still no huge fan of Ineos but they eventually have some likeable riders.

And again. Great last few Km today with Roglic going for it and a mature response by Remco he lost time but it could have been a whole lot worse.

He has already signed to EF for next season.

All of that for 8 seconds. I hope he is alright.

Any thoughts on Evenepole’s non-puncture?

It was a puncture. Adam Blyth popped a video on his Twitter saying he’d properly seen the footage after they went of air and he was wrong in his initial assessment.

That'll be that then.

This Grand Tour has kinda of fizzled out, with covid wreaking havoc in the peloton and now this stupid injury taking out the triple champion.
