That's the way it works. They announce changes, vaguely, to sound out public opinion before finalising plans. They then rely on the comments of those with experience in the sector affected before making sure that the detail is that little bit different from what is happening in England. Simple.

And it also gives them kudos about their “ ability “ to reflect and change any of the days details . It’s a win win for them

Cowardice , this has been a feature of her hiding behind the curtains approach and see what happens in England first , so nothing new really . Anyway it’s a positive day with good news on the whole . Party time next week ! Festival / fringe back on , and someone’s birthday too . Well played Nicola .👍

I would imagine it is tied to the fact that it's councils that issue safety certificates for stadiums (this isn't a COVID thing, they always have).

She said its only a temporary measure that clubs will continue to have to apply for attendances over 5000 so I'd imagine we'll be back to unregulated full houses within a few weeks.

There was nothing aggressive in his post James and if you think being called a Muppet on a forum is being rude, you should probably examine your own posts.

Rude, waspish and childish as well as haning on every utterance from EC,  have become your default settings on this thread of late, from posting utter pish from facebook to being baselessly anti anything from the SG despite people putting you right,  just like Jamboross's post that I quoted.

Only time I'd be described as delicate is the morning after a blowout on the wine and beer...

So today was the day we came out of lockdown

Masks remain

Table service in pubs (due to mask rule)

work from home remains

Nightclubs open but pointless if have to wear a mask

Stadiums not full

Trace and protect remains

Kids wear masks at school

Can’t still travel abroad

Don’t know how she gets such an easy ride

If it isn't a Covid thing why would Councils now take different views on stadium capacities? And if it is not a Covid thing why is the Government still even talking anout it?

Safety certificates and the issuing thereof by councils is not a COVID thing, they are what determine the safe capacity of a stadium (regardless of how many it can physically hold) and they have always been the responsibility of the local council going back as far as, I believe, the mid 70s.

The government imposing caps clearly is a COVID thing. I'm not saying I necessarily agree with them, just saying that if anyone is going to have to make decisions on the safe capacity of individual stadiums at the moment then it makes sense for it to be the local councils given it has always been their responsibility to do that, they just have someting extra to take into consideration when doing so now. That said I appreciate it creates issues of different councils having different interpretations and some perhaps being more cautious (or liberal) because of political affiliaitons so it would be nice to know what they are actually looking for from clubs to get X, Y, or Z capacity deemed safe. Especially given social distancing will not be a thing in wider public life.

Regardless, I'd be amazed if ( assuming COVID doesn't throw a curveball at us over the coming weeks ) we aren't back to at the very least stadiums full of home fans by mid-September.

As far as I understand it the Government is not imposing a cap but imposing a capacity threshold in absolute numbers (5000) above which local councils have discretion to set capacity limits from anywhere between that number and 60,000.

I understand what you are saying but as a matter of Government  Covid policy that makes no sense to me.

( Have councils ever taken account of the risk of spreading infectious diseases in setting the safe capacity for stadiums? )

Likewise.  I can see the logic in a situation where for some policy reason the Government sets an overall national limit and allows local councils discretion to set a lower limit, but if they do it the way described above they are in effect saying that councils can set any limit they like as long as it's not below 5,000.

I doubt if councils have ever considered infectious disease risk in their calculations.

In a nutshell .  It’s a joke an absolute joke.  A lot of pish and wind.  Had enough of her and her bullshit.  To think I voted SNP as well 😥  I genuinely think she just loves being the centre of attention so much. She’s totally gone against what the dentist was saying weeks ago.   Nah, had enough and if I even see her face again I think I’d puke

I see the council put a stop to the foodies festival this coming weekend.

They had done everything the council asked them to do but council still cancelled it

Loads of traders left thousands of pounds out of pocket but council don’t care
