How can they still be claiming  that's a penalty?

Accidently, but the forward instigates the contact.

Defender has no clue what's happened.

Milly Collum refereeing tonight.

Millie Bright. Carthorse.

On England, they thought they were winning this tournament before they even turned up.

Neville “We went down to 10 men.....”.

Disgracefully disrespectful comment to make.

Interesting footnote. Only Scotland and the USA to score against England to date.

I wonder what that Norwich twat who writes a billions words says about VAR now.

Actually i dont wonder who cares.

Controversial but im sure there will be a 1400000 word essay on it and how the mentality of people is affected by VAR as foretold by Chalchiuhtlicue

Lived in Cowplain myself for nigh on 22yrs. Went to the same junior school as my two eldest. Padnell junior school which a certain Gareth  Southgate attended too. My daughter lives less than a mile from there now.

Class of 75

Good game of football. Could have went either way to be fair. Overall has been a good tournament. I think the USA will go on and win it as they have now passed the 2 hardest tests in playing both France and England.

Tom Hardy’s Dug

Both Var decisions were correct in my decision.

No argument with the first. Unlucky and marginal but correct

And when the video refs eventually showed the right angle for the penalty - the camera behind the players - you clearly saw that the US player clipped the leg of the England player that she was about to try and flick the ball with.

If you are about to kick the ball and somebody clips your leg and prevents you from doing so it is a free kick.

A free kick in the box is a penalty.

Both decisions correct.

The West Shropshire Women's Conservative Association are backing Boris for Neville's job.

He has said they will never lose another game - ever!!!

By not playing other teams - ever!!!

England teams seem to lack the killer/champions mindset. They were close. IF they scored that penalty, could been a different result.

USA are so good. I can't see them losing to either Netherlands or Sweden.

Yep - can see a 4th star ️ on their shirts on Sunday

As a Heart's fan we have no room to slag penalties.

Last few years we've been shite at penalties.

I take it you never seen Clare take penalties then??? Anyway. How anyone can manage to slag off Hearts on a women's world Cup thread is beyond me

My problem with the penalty was that while you describe the US player as "clipping" her leg I thought it was in the act of shooting the English girl hit the US girls leg. Now I've not studied it in great detail just my thoughts on seeing it a couple of times. My point it if you make contact with the defender who is standing or in a position they are entitled to be in should it be a penalty?  For me it was similar (although completely accidental) to players flicking their legs out to make contact with goalies in the box a la Eduard in the cup final.

That's how I saw it.

The defender didn't initiate the contact

Yep the English player ran across the US defender (which she is entitled to do) but the US defender was just running at that moment of contact with the trailing leg. She was not attempting a tackle or to hit the ball herself and her path did not deviate.

On that basis, was our penalty in the the 2012 final a mistake, as the defender did not initiate contact and it was merely Suso's trailing leg that caught the boot of the defender?
