Can see the Bobby Prentice similarity though

Yup. If that's a recent photo PM has  aged pretty well. I think  RP might have been involved in a swap with Andy Lynch(?) between us and Celtic . I remember having a conversation wiht a  Celtic supporter, at a game before fans were segregated, after Rab joined us. I thought Rab Prentice was one of the best players with the ball at his feet that that I had ever seen and we had got the best of the bargain.

Andy Lynch went on to win Scotland caps I think while Rab Prentice faded from the game far too early, he had magic feet!  Peter Marinello's career  didn't quite live up to its earlier promise either for that matter although all of us at the time would have been delighted to have one tenth of their skills.

Great thread this!!

I think Marinello got caught up with the scene at the time. Going on the likes of Top of the Pops was probably the kind of distraction that stopped him being a great player.

Paul Rodger wasn't even in the equation for me. Looks a bit like Ray Dunlop in that phot all the same

Yeah, that's a good shout - never thought of Ray Dunlop and it could be him as he didn't have the 'tache in 78-79. Presuming it's the players welcoming O'Connor when he signed, so around October 78.

Thought he was the 6th Beatle.

The wonderful George Best being the 5th.

Steve Penney.

He was my neighbour during his short stay at Hearts. Nice, friendly bloke.

I read Ian Wright's autobiography recently.

I would need to check, to be accurate. But he was on trial at Brighton (pre Palace), but They decided to sign Penney instead. ?

The rest as they say, "is history"

Don't think Prentice was involved in the Andy Lynch deal. Think he went to Dundee for a short spell after Celtic then we signed him. Not sure Lynch was capped. Maybe wrong.

Probably one of the worst signings we ever made. Him and Dennis McQuade for Donald Park going to Partick Thistle. At least McQuade scored a couple of goals for us. I can't remember Craig contributing anything.

Hearts board made some strange decisions back then.

Did Roy Kay not go to Celtic about the same time as Andy Lynch.

Lynch was a left winger for us.Changed to a left back at Celtic.

The end of the League Cup final in 1962?

Tiny Wharton was the referee, who Kilmarnock found it hard to forgive after he disallowed an equaliser by Frank Beattie for handball.

I remember sitting watching on black and white tv, and grandad saying “is that them won that again?”.

Things got a bit different for 36 years.

Willie Wallace, Willie Hamilton, Roy Barry, John Cumming, Willie Polland and Davy Holt.

I think it's Gary MacKay. Can't think who the Aberdeen player is though

No Roy played  and scored against Leipzig in 1976 and left following year I think

Wasn't long at Celtic but then had a few seasons with York City
