Leigh Griffiths

I suspect he'd retire rather than sign for Hearts. Didn't he refuse a Jim Jefferies approach around 2010 when he was young, at Livingston, and such a move made career sense in every way?

Pity. JJ would have been good for him and a well managed Griffiths for us.

Griffiths the player, yes every day of the week. Griffiths the person, not a chance.

There is absolutely no chance this would ever happen.

Would rather we had a go at re-signing Lafferty but that ship has sailed.

Yeah we tried to sign him back when he was at Livi but turned us down due to being a Hibs fan and went to Dundee instead.

Cant see him ever signing for Hearts and wouldn’t want him to either.

Nor me, bud. Not now.

Way too much baggage and really don't believe it would stand any chance of lasting or being a successful move.

Only 28 too, imagine the goals and earnings left in him if he wasn’t such a peanut.

Some folk really have no hope though - I imagine his parents weren’t too bright either along with the resultant upbringing. Almost feel sorry for him.

It doesn't, it makes him a bit of a ignorant tube, but not a massive racist. Same as the guys who sang the naughty songs at Tynecastle 30 and 40 years ago aren't bigots. It was a song. Nothing more.

Nope, nor does telling someone to go back home because their name sounds foreign.

if a wee 16 year old acted like he did at Tynecastle the outcry from Budge and some supporters would be deafening. He'd be banned for life and rightly so.

He's scum.

Aah okay. So you can sing racist or bigoted songs but not be a racist or bigot?

Makes sense. So if I want to racially abuse someone in future I’ll put a wee tune to it and be grand.

What’s the weather like in your own little world?

Amazed that he's managed to play with umpteen players of different ethnicities at Celtic and not been outed as this "massive racist". He sang a daft song in a pub with his mates, get over it. I'm sure Rudi is.

How happy would your life be if you were making a really good wage, way beyond your dreams, at your place of employment. As you are rich and successful you are then ‘targeted’ or ‘approached’ by a criminal element in your home town and given hundreds of thousands of pounds in which to gamble/spend/launder as you wont raise suspicion in the casino. Would you tell them to bolt or would you listen to what they have to say?

This plan involves a risk as it was assumed he would place calculated risks with winning bets and not stupid risks in which he blows all the gangsters money. So instead of doubling up, laundering their cash and taking a large chunk in commission for being a good boy, he ends up on their hit list for being a daft wee silly boy. The commission being he keeps all the winnings and only pays back what he was given to launder. LG is vulnerable but he surely knows what’s right from wrong. A bit like playing Russian roulette with a full chamber of you ask me.

So let me ask you DTD.....would you have done the same had you been approached or told them to sling their hook?  And do you still feel sympathetic to his mental health issues caused by his reckless and foolish actions?

He’s lucky he still has his kneecaps intact but the gangsters realise if they maim him then he can never pay it back with future earnings unlike the Brad Welsh scenario

I don’t sympathise with his mistakes. I just don’t think he’a got a very happy life. That’s all. The amount of money he’s made from football is irrelevant.

Are you forgetting he also told an Asian guy on Twitter to "**** off back to his own country".

But yeh, he's definitely not a thick, racist scumbag.

I’m here a bit tbh. Griffiths like a few before him should’ve went south and stayed there to keep him away from the utter tubes he’s surrounded himself with.

28 years old and looking almost washed up and looking at going down the way now.

What an absolute clown.

The best thing and most likely scenario for The Thumb would be a loan move as far from Edinburgh/ Glasgow as possible .

However, who ever signs him still has to deal with his excess baggage .

So that song makes him a massive racist? I hope you've never attended any sportsmans dinners where certain ex Hearts players have been the speakers. Your wee head would've exploded at some of the chat.

Go and define what you consider racist chief? Makes no odds who did what years ago or if you can work with people from different ethnic backgrounds. If you sing something rather than shout it.

My “wee” head has been around for near 60 years and hasn’t exploded yet despite hearing numerous ignorant racist bellends spouting nonsense at West Ham and Hearts games.

I’m really interested in what you consider to be racist

If Griffiths was a "massive racist" he wouldn't even share a dressing room with black players. Think about what you're saying.

So a wee story appears overnight about Griffiths, yet again effing up at Celtic. I have no idea whatsoever about whether this is true or not but as others have said the chances of a new player at Celtic calling another player a "feni@n b'strd" are extremely slim. If it did happen you have to think that the said new player will not be there long and will almost certainly be hounded out by the green brigade.

Griffiths as a player is an extremely talented footballer and if he had no baggage I would love him at Hearts. Only two problems here: one, if he had no baggage he would be first name on the team sheet each week at Celtic; and two, we couldn't afford him.

Problem is he has massive baggage which is why he's on the fringes at Celtic. Reading the HMSA Dinner thread and the Q&A with Levein and MacPhee, they make it clear that the character of a player is very important. They mentioned that some clubs in England even hire Private Detectives to follow a prospective player around to see what they are like in their free time. The inference there being that whilst Hearts don't go to those lengths they understand why some clubs do and that a player's character off the field is very important. For that alone there is no chance Griffiths will ever be coming to Tynecastle.

Why? You can’t work with people of a different ethnic background and get paid. Shitload of money for doing it if you ARE a racist?  What do you consider racist? Answer the question.

I don't consider Leigh Griffiths to be a "massive racist" because he sang a daft song in a pub with his mates. Ok? You do, I don't. Get over it.

Do you think he is racist after telling someone to go home because of their name/skin colour?

That is certainly racist.  The Skacel song he sung was xenophobic and bizarre (Czech Republic isn't Bosnia) but I think a few people have short memories if they think they haven't sung anything worse.

I have and I'm not even old enough to remember the Shed.  The worst thing I have sung wasn't even sectarian or racist and was to the same tune as the Skacel one that Griffiths was caught singing.

Hard to believe anyone in the Celtic camp calling a player a fenian. All this stuff should have been settled about 300 years ago.....?

If it is ex-Killie Taylor then maybe true.  All my Killie friends are well sectarian in their views, as is most of Ayrshire TBH.  Kilbirnie, Kilwinning, etc., there is a lot of Orange Lodges splattered around North Ayrshire.

As Taylor has just joined Celtic, I suspect he has not had time to wash his mouth out properly.

Exactly. Why is this even a discussion

Because this is a discussion forum, threads do not need a triage (although maybe they do) to determine of they can be posted.

Would be quite happy if threads like this, and the Lafferty one, were confined to the rumour mill.

No problem my pal. He’s wasting his chances and we shouldn’t feel sorry for him. There’s thousands like him out there that make mistakes and are well aware of what they’re getting into.  File under GOC for wasting their careers.
