Well that was unfortunate timing to have a pop daza.

Not unfortunate in the slightest.

What i I got from that post yesterday was daza intimating that the deal was actually on the verge of being done, nearly a full month after it had been claimed to be almost over the line.

Again, he’s looking to be correct.

It makes a change from us having no one, going threadbare and having to try and fill gaps.

Obviously I agree and I've always said on here that squad depth was more of an issue than first XI quality last season, I just feel like an extra striker and an extra centre mid who isn't a holding player is overkill and we need to try to cut ties with guys like Martin, Sammon and perhaps others like Callachan and Amankwaa

Big Uche and auld man MacLean will want in on the action too, still hoping that Aidan Keena can have an amazing preseason and force his way into contention as well, now we just need another winger to stick it on their bonces

Vanecek and Naismith apparently done, Crawford and silva having decent trials and Mitchell and a winger on the shopping list

We're going to need to start offloading players eventually

2 - 5 - 4 formation...….any man goalie! The CL negative chat has got to him!

Normally I can't wait for the season to start, but this pre-season is tremendous, world cup and the In door at Tynie needing replaced….keep them coming Hearts!

Vanecek and Lafferty up front makes sense. Naismith is deeper and the others are back up.

We would be short otherwise. If Lafferty went we would get a replacement.

Personally I think it's 50/50 whether Big Laff goes , depends on what type of offer if any comes in .

Atleast we have cover in now by the sound of it which is a decent bit of business.

Hope the big man stays but his  stalk is high and it may be out of our hands .

Not surprising when you see the cut of his wife.

I'm hopping Levein's tactics next season are 3 4 3 formation and instruction 'score 1 more then them'.

Let’s not get too carried away. We had “options “ when Cathro signed all they players in the January window. The quality of these players is still largely in question.

Folk crying about our lack of depth in the squad.

We add players to the squad, must mean everyone's away.

Ye, but we have these guys permanently. The quality of them wasn't lacking, we saw glimpses from all of them IMO. Just not the right level of commitment. I am genuinely excited about where we are heading, an overhaul was needed and it's happened

Yes, let's not get carried away by our tendency to emphasise the negative aspect out of every move made by Hearts.

Who would want to do that?

I would agree and it’s also important the players are well drilled and become a unit.

I have faith CL can do this, he’s good at it.

If the quality turns out to be good , it’s then important to get the most from them and improve in areas we lacked last season. Away form, goal threat etc...that also comes with bravery and believing we can take the game to the opposition.

Edwards isn't a wing/full back. He's been signed to play attacking midfield.

From the look of the two line ups v Arbroath it is a 3-5-2, so it'll be two up front. I think Naismith will be used as a striker, not a midfielder, this time around.

looks like the young lads are going to have to up their game to get a start. All good IMO as they need to be used sparingly until they're properly ready.

I agree - they did quite well but Henderson and (Brandon?) on one side of the pitch in the derby wasn’t ideal.

It certainly does look like it will be a 3-5-2 formation I just hope this provides us with attacking options away from home. Too often last year it was a back 5 with sitting midfielder aswell and Lafferty 30 yards from everyone.

As I say I’m pleased we have tried to get more attacking players in but they are not the well known players barring Naismith and McLean I thought we would have went for. Time will tell

There’s a lot of unknown quality in that squad, I’m not going to get ahead of myself.

But there’s some good pedigree in there too. Looking hopeful.

Just doing a bit of research on Vancek.  Really impressive goals to games ratio however he has hardly played any games in the last three years:

2014 / 15 = 4 games 4 goals

2016 / 17 = 7 goals 7 games

2017 / 18 = 10 goals 10 games

Stats according to Soccerbase.
