From memory, I'd guess it closed in the late 1980s. Strangely, Google streetview has blurred out that building (last view is from 2008 !!) Maybe it was a dodgy sauna or something 😃

With the Struan gone, it must be about 2 miles with no pub between the Murrayfield & Winstons. Quite unusual for a main road.

Daktari
Taken from the North Bridge. in the late 1850s. The buildings on the left edge are the rear of Shakespeare Square which had a front onto Princes Street and these rear walls overlooked what was a developing rail station. These buildings were demolished in 1860 to make way for the new GPO building. The dominant building with the slight curve, was the Red Lion Hotel and the one with the neat round windows was also a hotel and 'tavern'. The low building is a rail yard shed and would have overlooked Lower Calton, which are the small houses below the rock face.

Tazio
There used to be a tiny go-go bar on Bread Street at the Lothian Road end. I think it might be a tattoo shop now. One of the smallest pubs I’ve ever been in and they had dancers. Edited April 2 by Tazio

I don’t think I’ve even driven through Burdiehouse and certainly couldn’t even take someone there as I’m not sure where it is apart from its south. However I could go anywhere in north Edinburgh and Leith no problem.
