Cade
So this entire week or pishing about in Parliament is all for nothing, because the EU remains steadfast in saying that the deal made is no open for re-negotiation. Even if Parliament does accept May's deal now, there isn't enough time left to pass all the hundreds of bits of legislation through Parliament before we leave! We'll see what happens. I wouldn't rule anything out. Mind you, it'll be tricky. The UK maintained that there were arrangements that could be put in place to avoid a hard border, but wouldn't make suggestions as to what they would be despite repeated requests from the EU 27. The backstop was designed to deal with that, and deal with UK concerns to avoid something it considered worse. Now the UK is asking the EU 27 to offer suggestions as to what alternative arrangements can be put in place. You couldn't make it up, really. Australis
In one of the votes, tonight MP's rejected a move to delay Brexit day Does that mean at the current time we will leave on the 29th of March as I believe no deal was the default position if the European union stick to their position that there will be no more talks especially over the backstop? Looks like May is going to be told not to bother with her new proposals. From the BBC website tonight MPs have voted against a proposal to delay Brexit in order to prevent the UK leaving without a deal. The amendment had been put forward by Labour MP Yvette Cooper, but was rejected by 23 votes. Edited January 29, 2019 by Australis...... I find it funny that people don't seem to grasp that this brinkmanship goes on to in every deal being struck from buying a car to this, I understand the magnitude of these negotiations but that's what they are, the principles are the same, neither should or would be a expected to reveal what they're actually willing to accept, the EU seem to wait untill the last moments to sign off on anything, neither side wants a no deal. Costanza
So the engineered no deal where we can blame it on the EU is a strong favourite now. Whilst this is going on, the pound is falling, business are spending millions on trying to mitigate a no deal or making plans to leave, reservists are being put on standby and military bases stockpiling food, fuel and ammunition. Hope everyone is stockpiling.
