Heard the other day, that the material which was released to the media was supposed to have been destroyed, don't know if a court order was issued or not to do so, however either way, the very fact this retired policeman had the material is I think a criminal office and then to release it to the media is only asking for trouble.

The two retired Policemen are now under investigation seemingly, presumably of how they had kept material which had been ordered to be destroyed.

They could end up going to jail for this.

You heard the other day,??. from whom did you hear??

So the evidance was ordered to be destroyed , who gave the ordere and why??

Lots of hersay here,

I think it may have been Green's lawyer when he was interviewed on Sky News, but I won't swear to that, as I didn't catch the guy's name, however he did quote sections of this law and that law, so i took it that he knew something about the law.

The tv was on in the background so I wasn't listening to closely until the guy being interviewed mentioned that he'd had assurances from the Police that the material was supposed to have been destroyed.

Now I don't know who gave the order and why, however I did hear whoever it was say, that, as it was not a criminal offence to have the porn on the computer and that it was not part of the Police investigation it was to be deleted from the Police files as it was not relevant to the Police investigation when they found it.

We now know that didn't happen, which opens up serious questions about the police.

“In accordance with standard police practice, Mr Lewis carried out the examination on digital copies he had made of the computers' hard drives.

When he ran a "gallery view" of images viewed on the desktop computer in Mr Green's Portcullis House office he noticed "a lot of pornography thumbnails which indicated web browsing", that he later confirmed by an examination of the computer's internet history.

The pornography was not "extreme", as some reports have suggested, and did not contain images of children or abuse, said Mr Lewis, who previously served in the Met's obscene publications unit and carried out investigations into paedophiles.

The matter was not referred to the Crown Prosecution Service for a charging decision.

The former detective, who spent 25 years with the Met, said after the leaks inquiry ended he was ordered by the force to delete the data on the computer copies he had made.

"Morally and ethically I didn't think that was a correct way to continue," he said.

The officer erased the data, as instructed, but kept the copies knowing experts could retrieve the information if they had to. However, he now believes the items may have been destroyed.

No fan in any way of the Tories but that cop deserves to be charged. No crime was carried out so this 'evidence' should never have been kept

Now whoever was being interviewed also said that the retired Police officers releasing this material they were politicizing the police, which is a very dangerous road to go down, as I'll give you an example of what could very easily happen.

Let's say someone is a student who gets briefly mixed up in some anti-establishment, anti-capitalist movement etc etc etc and the Police seize their computer looking for anything incriminating but all they find is some legal porn, which the student is assured by the Police will be destroyed.

Fast forward 10-15-20 years and that student is now a fine upstanding member of the community, hell he might even be an MP, happily married with a couple of young kids and is seemingly squeaky clean, until porn images are leaked to the media, by a Police officer who doesn't like the guy's political party, and then all hell breaks loose, his life and career could be utterly destroyed.

I think we all agree that would be a dangerous road to go down, hence why the Police have to be above Politics and if any wrongdoing has been done by these retired Police Officers then I hope they have time to reflect upon their actions when they are taking it dry in prison night after night after night.

So a top tory is viewing legal porn on a computer , it gets leaked, media latch on to it, the source of the leaks are fond to be in breach of protocol by defying  orders, this is seized on and the embarresment this has caused the Tory party is watered down.

Now what gets all lost in this hilarious saga is that a top so called respected tory is caught with is pants down viewing  porn , it was always going to end in  tears.

It still does not change the fact that a senior tory viewed porn and was caught, now the way he was caught is  neither here nor there. LOL

look at the smear campaign towards Corbyn ,leading up to the general election ,that is what you call a  cold calculated attack.

Did May not stop an investigation into allegations of senior politicians being  involved in child abuse??

Did she not order that files were to be destroyed or withheld.

So after all the tory spin   the fact is Damian Green downloaded thousands of porn images onto his workplace computer.

Whether the images were legal or illegal doesn't matter. If anyone else had done this, they'd be sacked on the spot.
However, the normal rules of behaviour don't seem to apply to Westminster, and the media's finger of blame is now pointing at the former police officers who blew the whistle.

And rightly so.

Green hasn't committed any offences (as far as is known), the retired Police Officers who leaked the info to the media, however that could be a different story.

ML, everyone knows that you hate the Tories, but don't let your hatred blind you to the bigger picture here, and that is the abuse of power and trust being shown here by retired police officers, leaking what is non-criminal material to the media, for what can only be deemed as political hatred.

I would have thought you of all people would have been all over this abuse of police power.

If you had read the reply properly you'd have seen that I was saying that the media is right to start pointing the finger and asking questions of the ex-police officers for leaking this information.

Information which was supposed to have been destroyed.

Correct.

The issue that was relevant to me at the time of the vote was to punt the Nats into the long grass so that we can return to proper governance as opposed to permanent divisive Independence debate.

I now see that as secured so now I can concentrate on social equality, hence I will be voting for whatever party is the best option for that.  If it happens to be the SNP at the next Holyrood election then it would be SNP  But the party in the lead in this issue is Labour, with the SNP still trailing along behind and getting dragged into the tax reform issue, years after they were given the power to do something about it themselves.

But its probably Thatchers fault.

Social equality and voting Tory, ffs.

Watching first minister questions today and the Tories got absolutely savaged by all the political parties and ministers who spoke.

Thought Nicola sturgeons defense on the Named persons policy against Ruth Davidson was solid and she shot her down many times. The Tories really are a laughing stock.

As for Leonard..how can anyone take Scottish Labour seriously these days. Anytime he was presented a question he just pauses, looks confused then continues reading a pre prepared section off a sheet without any sort of rebuttal.

Social equality is usually measured by wealth.  There are rich people and there are poor people.  That will always be the case - thats life.

The poor will hate the rich, and the rich will look down on the poor.    You choose where you are on the spectrum.

Social justice does not mean everyone is equal.    But it does mean, in my view, that the rich-poor gap at the moment is too wide and th erich should be taxed more.

Why what?

If you mean why should the rich be taxed more, its simple - they can afford it.   For example that university chancellors last salary was £800,000.   She could easily afford to be taxed at higher than the 45% max rate and be extremely well-off.

And up here in sheepland it is not uncommon to see peeps on pensions of 70k per year.      Not bad for a pension eh?

And the same with most of the population I'd guess, they would be out the door, however the point in question here wasn't what was found on his computer but the breech of trust shown by the Police officers who leaked the info to the media, years after they had been ordered to destroy that info.

And on Thursday there, we had a guy who's rape trail collapsed after the Police were ordered by the court to release vital information which they had withheld from the defence for two years, which proved his innocence.

I'd be a bit more concerned about the actions of the Police, whom it has been shown in these two cases alone, can withhold crucial information or hold onto information Illegally to then be used against someone at a later date.

This concerns me a great deal more than some legal porn found on some guy's computer, indeed it is something which should be of concern to every member of the public, that the Police can and do stitch people up or destroy careers at the drop of a hat whenever it suits them.
