josey wales
John Robertson, the finest player to wear the jersey in my lifetime. The wee man made the single biggest contribution in turning us around from a shower of relegation fodder dross to a team worthy of representing The Heart of Midlothian. I have been just as happy after a game on a very few occasions over the last 30 years , but I have never been happier than I was bouncing out of Tynecastle that day. Thank you Robbo. Shaggy2
Bump. A pivotal game in the history of the Edinburgh derby. Despite Hibs' dominance in the '70's Hearts were still miles ahead in competitive derby wins, 82-56 (not inc WW2 league games), but from 3/9/83 we really put the boot down on the Hibby throat. 2 Robbo equalizers then Jimmy Bone's winner set the tone for 3 decades of dominance. 56-26 in our favour since, 138-82 in total, in the most ludicrously one-sided derby of its kind. Remember, remember the 3rd of September. 3-2. FTH. Interesting stat that it's taken them 34 years at 4+ derbies per season to reach where we were prior to that match in terms of victories. I'm 45 this year and very much doubt I'll see them reach 138. I actually wonder if I'll see them win another 32 in my lifetime to reach the 56 Hearts have achieved since that magical day. Going to die happy, hopefully many years from now!
cookieboy
Disgraceful that there were no TV cameras at the first derby in so long , am guessing the old and new firm games were covered. NANOJAMBO
says 20,000 back there im sure there was more than that....lochend had a good support that day,and tynecastle was rammed so how 20,000......reckon bout 26 meself I was at the game and I remember thinking there wasn't that big a crowd - I think I saw a figure of 17,000 quoted way back when although I could be wrong. . For younger fans who wouldn't know , the threat of major crowd trouble at these fixtures was always being spoken about by fans and media. As for the game , the only thing I remember is Robbos left foot curling shot, it was an absolute beaut. It sure set the tone for years to come , to the point Hobos were constantly being taunted with "you couldnae sell all yer tickets!". Great times. I quite like also that we've won as many derbies since 1983 as they had won up until 1983 (well, up to 1979 or 1987 as that was the gap between their 56th and 57th wins). If you see what I mean. Hearts Heritage
It's hard to convey now how much trepidation we fans approached Derbies if you're of a certain age. I'd seen us win 1 competitive Derby in 15 years. That game did feel like a game changer. Though Hibs had chances to go 2 goals up that might have changed the outcome. Alex MacDonald should get a lot of praise as well for instilling the never say die spirit. Oh and Alan Rough played 17 games in goal for Hibs .... Younger fans will struggle to get to grips with this but any Hearts fan who had been through the 70s had zero faith that we could do these *****. scott herbertson
When Bone rose he could hang in the air , despite carrying a bit of middle age spread. His distribution from the head was second to none. I never saw Bauld play, but watching Bone made me realise what my granddad was talking about when he said hanging in the air.i used to practice it down at the figgy park for months afterwards (with little success needless to say) I'm sure Robby learned a lot off the old guy, what we could do with either or both of them in our team today...
