Another big win in the Sky ?30 GTD for myself - finished in 4th and up ?5.90 :smoking:.

Had a hand near the end that pretty much cost me the tournament though:

Blinds are up at 800/1600, I'm big stack with 23k, the rest are on between 10k and 15k. I wake up with pocket Qs, nothing but limpers in front and I go all in (there aren't any real short stacks at the table and I reckoned there wouldn't be anyone willing to risk their tournament to see my cards) but get called by BB, who has a stack roughly half of mine. He calls all in with KT off suit, and turns a King to take the pot.

Was this a bad move or a bad call, or a bit of both?

Perfect move, horrible call and just simply unlucky on your part. I'd do the exact same every time.

You played right, he played wrong and got lucky.

More often than not you'd win.

If you are in that strong a position you tell them, "I take 35% or I'll play till 2 more drop out and then talk about a deal then." The chances are they will all be ****ting themselves that they are one of the 2 to go out so they'll do what you want.

I'd rather play to a finish than feel cheated coming away from a deal.

Well done on the win. :sorcerer:

Played last night for the first time in what seems like weeks. New people have stated playing and it is more like Bingo than poker!!!! Pure gambling. Virtually everybody limping in to see the flop every hnd no matter how high you raise. Bunch of muppets. Won one hand in four hours. Second frequently, ususally rivered by something stuipid. Might not bother in future. Either that or wait until decent players are playing.

Why would anyone call 5 x BB with a 10, 2 off suit???????

Not in a good mood obviously!!!

Tournament poker is absolutely bollox.

Sat for 6 hours last night in the tournament and didn't put my chips in behind the whole night and then get absolutely raped for the biggest pot of the night to become big chip leader on the final table.

Absolutely nobody in that casino would have got as far as I did with the cards I was dealt last night and the situations I constantly found myself in.

I somehow managed to stave off going out and got a treble up on the final table to finally be above average stack.

Round of the table later somebody open shoves all in for 80k. I look down at KK and obviously call.

150k pot he flips over QQ. Needless to say hits a Q on the turn and instead of becoming big chip leader I'm out and get back ?40 after paying ?33 to enter.

Seriously pish.

cheers MJ

The deal situation was strange....i intially said no (after my replying Ill take 1st prize u divvy up the rest was rejected ;)....), keep playing, but the deal demands were relentless form the lower ended stacks (for obvious reasons)

"its 5 of us against you" etc to quote one of them...end of the day im happy picking up ?500 and learning from the whole thing rather than having a blow up /some bad luck and wishing i had dealt.

i would always rather play to a finish as some of my play was geared towards this in the latter stages whilst others were just trying to stay alive.

anyway , was all good fun...and a ticket for the mantlepiece!!

How did everyone get on?

I finished 38th, first time I've cashed in the Five00, ?55.

UTG went all in, I had 6000 in on the BB, 11000 back, I would have been down to 8000 after the next hand, I had T6 of spades, I call, he turns JJ.

I was a table with 2 of the big players on sky, Rattious and Gerrard9.

Gerrard9 makes a lot of moves, pushes chips around a lot. Rattious builds his stack early and puts his chips in near the bubble, both have good strategies.

It was my first game on sky for a while (except the satellite this afternoon), the rest must have did me good :)

Thanks, there was a big hand on the bubble, 61 players left, I'm in the big blind with KK, I know Rattious is pushing all in with his 45,000 chips in the small blind, I have about 10,000, he pushes, I hope as long as he doesn't have an Ace. I call, he has 66, he didn't hit his 6.:smash:

I was split whether to call or not, I decided to go for it, I'd rather try and give myself a chance to win rather than going out soon after with a hand much worse than Kings and getting about ?40.

I felt my decision to call with the 10 6 was correct, if I fold I'm on 8,000, if I call and win I am sitting pretty on 40,000.

Wee bankroll update.

I got it up to ?2,400 on Monday. Been a slowish couple of weeks not making many hands and taking a fair few beats but managed to grind a semi alright profit over the couple of weeks, nothing spectacular.

Had a bad Tuesday however losing ?180, which I was pretty peeved with, basically lost two coin flips and I really don't need to be sticking my chips in on coin flips, get much better opportunities to do stick my money in.

Anyhow, I withdrew ?1,600 leaving ?600 to play with.

At end of play tonight my bankroll is ?840.

Probably a good thing to "bank" some money and try build up slowly again. My net withdrawals from Sky this year are ?2,600 and with ?840 still in my acca I'm basically 3 and a half grand up on it so far this year.

I'm in the Velocity2 just now, 20 get paid, 21 left, I'm 13th with 18500, the average stack is 27000, the smallest stack is 6880 and I have the chip leader 2 to my left with over 91500!

Blinds will be 2000/4000 after the break.

What happened to me last night, has just worked in my favour, UTG raises on my BB, I have 10K back, 4K invested, if I fold I'm on 8K on the next hand (SB) if I call and win, I'm up to 30K. I have 69 of hearts, I call, he has AT, I hit a 6 and win the hand.

Since that I have added 20K with an AJ v A8 and I'm now sitting on 50K, 3rd of 15.

Finished 9th and won ?28.65, 2 cashes in a row!

UTG with 67, I have 4 big blinds, I push, one of the big stacks calls (still a big call, half his stack) with AQ, I flop a 6, he rivers a Q, an 80,000 pot, again, if I fold I lose 1/4 of my stack in the next hand, 67 you're pretty much guarenteed live cards, it's the type of hand you have to win to go far in these tourneys.

If you thought the call all-in with KT off was a bad move, how about calling all-in with 57 off suit?

Happened tonight in the Sky Freeroll, boy goes all in on his first 2 hands and calls me an idiot because I didn't call him. He's probably the worst player I've ever seen, showing bluffs every other hand and almost every time he wins one, plus he was giving it the jive talk in the chat bit, so I was already gunning for him.

I woke up with pocket Queens on the button again, limps round and I go all-in. He says in the chat box, "Gimme all them chips", calls all-in and turns 57 off suit. Horrific.

Just finished up, made it to the final table but out in 6th out of a field of 547 - 80p in the back tail. Any ideas on how to spend my winnings?

Interesting cash game last night as Bigsmak will confirm, he left early though before it got REALLY juicy.

This drunk yank luck boxed his way up to like ?800 +, well he left with nothing in the end, biggest DONK ever.

I made the sickest/best call of my life against him.

Limped with 22.

Flop came down 34K.

Got checked round.

Turn Q, the drunk yank bets ?20.

I call with my 2's.

River another Q. He fires out ?50.

In my head, I knew if he'd had any of the flop he'd have bet because thats what he'd been doing all night long.

When he fired the Q i thought it was just a stab at the pot as it had been checked round on the flop. And he fired really quickly on the river I just felt it was a bluff.

So I called, and he shows T high!

BOOM!!!!

He was rubbish, I wanted to take his money but he hardly had any when I was there. The game was great and I managed to get home not long after midnight. Some funny hands and Paul was in great form. I'll play him for money at golf on Tuesday if he still wants.

Hope you came out of it up.. I sat with 65 and walked with 342.. In about 1 hour 20 mins. lol

1st break in the sky Velocity, guess who's chip leader?

86,080 chips!!

28 left, in the money.

I won a huge hand on the bubble, all in with my 40K with KK against Greeko, I remember him from Newcastle. I sucked out on a huge hand against him. Anyway, he had JJ and lost.

Finished 5th.

?94.15

I've had such bad luck with the cards and hands. Everytime I was sitting on around 140K, if I won the hand I went into, I am up to 200K+ but I lost them every time, dropping back to about 100K and not being able to bully the table quite as much.

3 nightmare river beats as well, A guy is all in UTG, I'm in the SB with Q6, I call 16K (10K in SB + 6K more) The BB calls the 6K as well. The flop is Q high. I check, the BB bets, I call. The turn is an A, I check, the BB checks. The river is a 2, I check, he bets and I call, he turns Q2.

The very next hand on the final table, I have pocket 10's, UTG pushes, I call about 63K (I have 2K less than the UTG), the BB calls the 40K to make a pot of 180K. They have KJ and KQ. I'm thinking to myself no overcards, well an Ace would be alright, the flop come 6AA. Turn a 6, River a 6!!! 3 way split.

About 10 hands later, I push with A5, I get a call from the short stack, he turns KJ. The flop is A23, turn K, river K!!!

I know that's the game though and the reverse has happened to me in my favour so I can't really complain.

The hand I went out on was I was in the SB with 53, not enough to make up the BB, I let the ticker run down, I didn' know whether to call, I was up against 2 random cards, possibly dominated, if I fold I have no chance of winning the tourney but may ladder up a spot or two, if I call I have to get lucky or I'm out. I call and come up against A7, I was pleased with that because I had live cards, I didn't hit.

Anyway, 3 big cashes in a row! Not bad at all.

Yep, I bought in for 140 and cashed out 460 so pretty good night!

Paul bust out (shock). I felt bad slightly, I took about ?100 off him. His own fault for getting involved in pots with me though tbh.

Remember how he was talking about playing omaha at mine? Well he'd put money in my account to play with, left $50 in it before going to casino.

Well last night I ran that $50 up to $315 then back to zero in about 20 minutes. Was playing high stakes pot limit omaha, doing well then bust out. Felt like trying to win big for a change!

Paul was going a little bet crazy in some pots.. Raising UTG a lot... Asking for trouble, he's lucky I didn't play that J9 against him just before I left.. He would have paid me a big whack.

EDIT: Unlucky, out 4th, A9 v 47, 47 had odds to call.

Chip leader, 6 handed, 4 idiots (5 if you include me :)) and a guy who seems to have at least played before. I'm on the button when this happens:

1 fold, 2 limps, the half decent player min raises, short stack goes all in for his last 700 chips. I have pocket Queens and go all in for 5.5k to buy the rest of the table out of it, so I can take the guy down myself. 1 idiot folds, 1 calls all in and the guy who seems to know what he's doing calls all-in as well, for almost as much as my stack.

Short stack turns AT off suit, the other short stack turns something like A6, next biggest stack turns pocket 9s.

Flop is a 3 5 8 rainbow and I'm laughing.

Turn? A 9 obviously.

Lucky it was a freeroll. :sorcerer:

Quick hats off to Goonieref who talked with me thru the final stages of a 350 person $24 tourney last night.

I had gotten into the money on an average stack, was totally card dead all night and had gotten to the last 40 by stealing, re-stealing from stealers and with a solitary pair of Kings.

With Gooniref's "head down, bum up" strategy we limped me into 3rd spot for a very tasty $900.

I now have a bankroll again.

Well played...

I love the name of this strategy, he should write a book. Its a really, really good one to use depending on the type of people at the table. Sometimes you have to be extra aggressive (if the table is passive), lose if the table is tight and tight if the table is lose.

Also - if you think there are one or two players better than you at the final table, just let them do all the work and wait for a good spot to get all your chips in.

Also - unless you have the nuts.. and you are thinking about putting all your chips in, you have to be first into the pot, not calling. This is soooo important. As it gives the other players a chance to fold giving you more ways to win the pot. If you just call, you can only win by having the best hand (and that sucks and is not what Hold em is about.

First to bet often wins the pot.

There were 3 huge stacks at the table and they seemed intent on waging war with each other rather than waiting off and attacking the shorter stacks, so we sat back and watched the carnage ensue.

Went from 9th to 4th and only played 1 hand IIRC.

In the whole tournament I had KK, AJ, AK and a few mid-small pocket pairs. My most profitable hand was a double up when 4 people limped to my big blind and my 7,4o hit a K44 flop.

Total revalation in respect to how far you can go in a tournament with very very few good cards.

Stealing from people who I was sure were stealing was the most profitable move. I had to pull that move about 4 times and it succeeded every time, I wasn't called even once.

Busted out just under 300th.

My first 4 hands, AA, AK, AK, AQ. I made 120 chips :(

Finally bust out with 8's running into J's.

You still seem to be up there, 20 BB, just about double the average stack, doing well.

Push with Ak and called with K9 and he flushes it

Such a bad call, the thing is, 7/10 times you make your money on people that call hands like that, so sometimes you need someone or two like that in a fast tournament like the Five00 at your table.

Won an $8 satellite on PKR today so won an $80 seat into the Sunday $30,000 GTD (guarenteed) tomorrow night.

Anyone else playing in it? I usually just play $5 SnG's or 25/50 cent cash games so much higher buy in that I usually go for, anyone got any tips?

Been running really well for a change this week! My girlfriend ended up coming 2nd at the nuts regionals for ?200 last Sunday and ive turned $80 into about $370 online and won ?35 at ?5 buy in on Thursday so hoping my luck can last until at least tomorrow night!

Sky Bounty Hunters - Where does the money go?

I have been looking into the Sky BH's, when they get to heads up, there will always be a player with a remaining bounty on his head.

As an example, I've taken a ?5.75 (?5+75p) 10 player BH SNG.

Sky's income is (?5.75 x 10) ?57.50.

Sky pays half of the buyin as prize money = ?25

Sky pays the other half to bounty takers;

1, -Say one player knocks everyone out, he will be paid (75% of ?2.50 x 9) = (?1.88 x 9) = ?16.92.

2, -If one player knocks 8 out and loses heads up, he'll be paid (75% of ?2.50 x 8) = (?1.88 x 8) = ?15.04 and the winner will be paid (75% of the other players bounty = 25% of ?2.50 x 8 + ?5) = (75% of ?8.76) = ?6.57

If we look at 1, first.

Sky's income is ?57.50, they pay ?25 + ?16.92 = ?41.92

That is a profit of ?15.58 = 27.1%

If we look at 2, next.

Sky's income is again ?57.50, they pay ?25 + ?15.04 + ?6.57 = ?46.61

That is a profit of ?10.89 = 18.9%

So, in Bounty Hunter's they make around 20% profit in each one.

Compair that to the Five00;

Sky's income is (?22 x 500) = ?11,000

Sky pay (?20 x 500) = ?10,000

That means the profit is ?1,000 = 9.1%

Half that of a bounty hunter tournament.

I see why they got rid of the Primo and added a ?20K BH. :(

Some seriously sick people out there.

Some absolute donkey, ****** whatever u wana call him just called ?50 pre-flop against me with K9 ffs.

I'd limped into his blind with AQ, as he'd been raising out of it lots previously. This is on 25/50p blind levels.

Anyway as expected he raises it, to ?6, a 12 x raise! I just insta-shove knowing im ahead and he snap calls me with K9.

Hits a 9 and takes the pot from me.

Absolute nonsense.

Frustrating to say the least, have since won the majority back so only a 5er down for my mini session, still annoying though!

BR up to ?1,200 again, still not moved up the levels.

Question:

6 handed, you have a Queen in the hole, 2 come out on the flop. What are the odds of the one person with position on you at the table having the last one, with a slightly better kicker than you?

Hypothetically speaking, of course...
